So Vanessa and I have a shared deep love for the Beatles, and our recent trip to Liverpool when we paid a visit to the Cavern Club has inspired this thread.
Please share with us your favourite songs, both by the band and the members as solo artists etc.
It's very very hard to choose just one to start us off but I've selected this. More to come....

They were amazing ..
I saw a documentary on the great classical composers and they said that Lennon McCartney were the equivalent of those greats simply because they wrote so many amazing songs

Absolutely genius of songwriting from Lennon/McCartney.
Love their mid 60s music as I love sixties music and acts.
Then though, Get Back, Let It Be, Long and Winding Road
Superb songs
I have though on dvd their film Help
Really crazy all over the place and bonkers film.
Which really cheers me up when I watch it
The song I love from that film is ' You've Got To Hide Your Love Away '.
I love their songs by other artists too.
My own personal favourite Petula Clark loved the Beatles and recorded many of their songs
Of their hits too though, my favourite if I only had time to play one would be ' We Can Work It Out '.
I much preferred their earlier music before the hippy type stuff

Now we're talking my language. This is what I call a thread.

You're right to love their early stuff. It was fantastic. But later Beatles changed music forever and was by far superior.
The trilogy at the end of their Abbey road album. The first part, Golden Slumbers, they should have added more to it and made it a song on it's own. It's one of the greatest pieces of music ever. Carry that Weight is amazing too.

From my second favourite album, "The White Album"

From my favourite album, Sgt Peppers.

The legendary Frank Sinatra, who sung some of the greatest songs ever. Said that this song is the greatest love song ever.
One of the rare songs of the Beatles not wrote by Lennon/McCartney. Written and sung by George Harrison.

I was so proud of this forum when I did the "Britain's greatest band" poll competition a couple of years ago. And The Beatles won.
They beat Queen by one vote.
I like Queen, but they were punching above their weight getting that close to 'The Beatles'
No.

In your opinion of course
I prefer their older stuff like the songs I mentioned earlier

I was listening to this a lot when I was reading Thomas Hardy a few years back. So this is a song that I randomly associate with The Mayor of Casterbridge. It's not the worst fit imo. It does have a kind of rustic feel imo.
