[The UK Prime Minister will head
to Azerbaijan today for Cop 29,
with the main focus being on agreeing a
ten-fold increase in financial aid.

The original target was $100billion but pressure is
mounting to up the figure available
for poor countries to cope with climate change,
and increasing their ambitions on emissions cuts.]

[That goal is competing for resources
and attention against economic concerns,
wars in Ukraine and Gaza, and the
election of Donald Trump,
a climate-change denier,
for a second term as president
of the United States,
the world's biggest economy.

And Sir Keir is one of the only leaders
of a major country who is heading
to Baku at all.

Outgoing US president Joe Biden,
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and
India's Narendra Modi are not expected
to attend.]

PM Starmer is now in Azerbaijan.

I assume a TV news reporter can go there.

The Sunday Times Reporter
is there, so he spoke at the empty conference
on Times Radio Live.

The carbon footprint that would be saved if they held it on Zoom is much bigger than any solution they'd come up with. But instead they all need to jet over and blow hot air.

Utterly pointless.

Exactly, the whole thing's like a joke - they're flying in from all over the world to Azkaban to have a nice chat about climate change, with the Taliban.

It's just an excuse for our politicians to have their jollies in another country.

the reason all the other big countries are staying away is because this conference is about giving poor countries more money. I have no idea why the UK are attending unless they want to give them more cash

Yes wasting Tax Payers Money

Never mind the money, it's a ridiculous carbon footprint to attend a "green" summit.
