View Full Version : Well done to Ali, she played a good game!

Now, this doesn't mean I like HOW she played it, I dislike HMs that play the audience rather than playing the house, but I admire her ability to target a demographic out there and pander to them so hard and and convince them that she is a cause to fight for.
She identified the perfect gameplan and in the end it carried her through... Not in that house, I don't mean that because that was a disaster for her, but in the manipulation of the X/Reddit crowd.
Sadly, I think now it's been seen though this is the end of BB as we know it... From here on in it'll be about WHAT you are not WHO you are to win. The winner won't be who was a great HM, it'll be whoever represents that year's current thing worthy cause, because that's who the XReddit crowd will flock to. I think that's a shame, because I will miss whatever remained of the old BB.
But, yep, no hate to Ali, she might not have played the game I wanted to see played in the show and might have manipulated and misled the audience to 90k but as heists go... It wasn't bad.

But, yeah... The Ali cultists on FB, X, and Reddit are terrifying... :joker:

Hi vesavius
You talk alot of sense , Ali knew exactly what she was doing. And the moment Lily got evicted it was inevitable that it would lead to her winning.
I wish a housemate would win for who they are , rather than identity politics. Unfortunately as you say ..this will just continue.
Ali manipulated her way to winning. And she might aswell thank Lily , Khaled & Marcello for helping her get there .

She got more votes than all other finalists combined? 51.9%!

Yes and that's with only the app voting not how it used to be where we voted unlimited amounts on our phones.
This was only from app votes of 5 votes each.

I mean tbf it was only a few people voting for her each time.
She was so cold and manipulative throughout, but instead of clocking onto her behaviour or calling it out they all sort of went along with it and made nice, bar a few moments from Khaled and Marcello. Even then, every disagreement had to be concluded on Ali's terms. You can tell she was a nightmare in those situations, pure arrogance.
If I was them I would have shone a light on her behaviour a lot more. That's what I mean when I said they were fooled because they kept trying to stay on her good side, even suggesting that she was a "nice person".
If they rewatch the show I guarantee you most of the house won't be in contact with her again when they see the venom she was spewing.
She painted herself the victim and the public and her cultists fell for it. It's the world we live in I guess.

It of course is different.
You could vote from landlines plus any mobile phones you had too.
The difference being you could vote continuously, as many times as you wanted to or could afford to,not just 5 times, that MUST make a considerable difference.

She painted Khaled as fake for weeks, realised he was popular, back tracked, and then pretended to defend him when others started jumping on the bandwagon to make herself look good. It was so transparent.
Kept banging on about the "patriarchy" in the house and how she was at the bottom, when none of that was true. Enabled awful behaviour from Lily and Dean, fed their heads with bs with her constant b1tching. Lied to Emma. Tried to paint BP as a mean girl. Didn't like Sarah. Consistently played the victim, accusing others of what she was doing, etc..
I don't think she really liked anyone, just made alliances to get by when her closest people were being picked off. But hey, fair play it worked. I just didn't think the public would be fooled by her psychobabble, use of buzzwords, identity politics and t-shirts.

:joker::joker: She got Khaled's character completely wrong, and she still doesn't regret it nor care that she was mistaken . She planted seeds about him,and eventually got him evicted.
How on earth can she be so judgemental and question his whole being ,when she didn't even know him. There's something very unhealthy about that .
The general consensus is that Ali came across beautifully .. you have been wearing those blinkers for 6 weeks ..

Tbf it is just the way society is nowadays unfortunately.
You've got certain parts of the left pushing for everything having to be diverse, even if sometimes it does come across as a bit forceful.
And obviously you have certain parts of the right that aren't happy unless it's a white, straight, macho guy as 95% of a TV Show's cast.
There's large swaths of people nowadays that bring Politics into everything in a really extreme manner.
Now speaking for myself, I like to think that I just like who I like, even if hardly anyone else agrees with me on that person.

Tbf there have been plenty of attractive women that have been voted off BB over the years.
Imo, some that are more attractive than Ali (with all due respect, as I get that it's subjective) in fairness Marcello and Segun should've been the ones benefiting the most from the looks argument, considering they're attractive guys with an audience that's mostly watched by women followed by gay guys.
And I say that as someone that wanted Marcello to win last night.

I don’t think Ali won because of a hive mind and purely because she’s lesbian but I do think representation matters.
I think if you are of a subsection of society (straight and white) you have grown up seeing yourself as the default on every TV drama, every reality TV programme, every advert and you do not understand how it feels to hardly see anyone that represents an important aspect of your identity in the public eye and historically even when you have it’s still through the lens of someone straight and white. Luckily this is changing.
BB has always had a friendly and positive relationship with contestants from all walks of life - many of the winners have been gay - and maybe that’s why it’s one of the only reality TV shows I gravitate towards and always have. But Ali is still the first lesbian winner, only just now, 24 years into the shows run. So maybe some people did gravitate towards her because of that, and because she was unafraid to make a statement on issues she found important, but I don’t see that as problematic. People see themselves represented by someone who is LGBT and who shares in their values, why is that a bad thing?
When straight white people (not saying you are straight and white as I don’t know I am just speaking generally here) say things shouldn’t be politicised and ask why people have to make it all about identity they should understand that comes from a place of privilege.
They are everywhere at all times and always have been. Identity is important and feeling seen is important and without making it political society wouldn’t have made the strides it has done over history. As that is such a vital part of society, it is only natural that bleeds over to shows like Big Brother.
Having said all that, I think Ali mostly won because she was a complex individual that diverted from what we know a BB HM often to be and people resonated with that.
I think it’s important to remember she got 52% of the vote across 6 people. There was something there. And it’s okay for people not to see it but it’s crass to assume it’s just because of a gullible hookwinked group of lemmings obsessed with identity politics.

I see some of the points that you make, and I do agree with you that BB (until Ch5 came along) were always big into representation in terms of their casting because it does work for BB (and The Traitors tbf) because both Shows are about the social aspect, so representation of all different groups of people is a great strength for BB imo.
And I know that Ali didn't win purely off of an LGBT themed vote because I know that Zizu for example is straight going off his discussion around women's looks in Sports.
I don't mean that in a bad way btw Zizu as I know that you don't mean harm by it.
And I did see on Facebook that a lot of straight guys were into her, because I remember mainly the Khaled fans at the time getting really angry at them for liking her for what they perceived to be "because of her looks."
And for me I honestly don't care about representation (I am a straight white male tbf) but I just like who I like.
For example Sarah was my favourite in this series and she was a Bisexual woman, the only things that we have in common are being white people from the Midlands.
As I've already said though, I know that Ali's vote is more wide reaching than her detractors want to believe.
