[Conan O’Brien has been announced
as the host of next year’s Oscars.

The former late-night host and comedian
will host for the first time after
Jimmy Kimmel turned it down.
The current late-night host had hosted
four times, taking on the
2017 and 2018 ceremonies
and then the most recent two.

“I did two years and it went well,”
Kimmel said during a podcast earlier this year.
”I did another two years, it went well.
I figured I’d take a little break.”

Seems pointless as a lot of rubbish these days wins.

Most of the time, the stuff nominated is stuff virtually no one but the snobbiest of snobs has seen. This year is a rare one where most people will at least have heard of more than half the films nominated for best picture.

Although despite the audience accessibility, I'm not sure the likes of Wicked, Emilia Perez, or even The Substance (which pains me to say, as I'm a big horror fan and I did like it) are particularly deserving of being included in that roster.

Also what the hell is Jimmy Kimmel talking about when he says his four years as host went well. Hasn't the Oscars rather notoriously experienced a diminishing viewership over the last few years? How is it the case that it 'went well' for him?

I thought The Substance was okay. It was good for what it was. But I think pople went overboard with their praise. One critic said it is the greatest movie of all time. Excessive. :p

I didn't really think Anora was "amazing". It's a good film but I didn't expect all of these huge accolades for it. Not at all.

For it to win Best Film over something as colossal and poignant as The Brutalist is crazy but I think this year the judges really decided to favour indie films over the more big budget ones.

I was rooting for Demi to win Best Actress.
