But there's nothing wrong with the one I have.
Not keen on the new ones. Worried they don't work or overcharge :ninja2:

we have one for electric, not sure how they can overcharge, you get a bill so you can check plus we get free electric when the grid is green, Octopus Energy, its up to you, they cant force you to have one

I’ve got two one for gas and one for electric
It sends the readings to the company
The electric one sends the readings but the gas one doesn’t but it should

So I get over inflated bills that are estimated for the gas
It means I have to ring them and give the correct reading to get the right bill

But this time they sent me a bill that was probably less than I’ve used so I just paid it

I won’t get away with paying but just not this month

I have heard that bills rise and it gives them more control. Lets face it they are not pushing you to get a smart meter because they think it will benefit you..

My gas meter broke so I didn’t really have a choice it was giving me free gas for a while then it broke completely so I had a smart meter fitted the bloke fitted it gave me the gas. Had used for free so that was a bonus

Unless you can go off grid we get screwed on everything

when we moved the electric meter was already changed to a smart one so we didnt have a choice, tbf its very convenient not having to send meter readings, and you generally know how much you consume at any rate and we have never had a bill that we looked at and thought it was wrong

Refusing a smart meter

You don’t have to accept a smart meter if you don’t want one. If your supplier tells you that you must have one installed, contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline.

If you refuse a smart meter, you might find it hard to access all tariffs. This is because in future the cheaper tariffs offered by suppliers might only be available to customers with smart meters.

You can ask your supplier to install your smart meter with the extra functionality switched off. This means it’ll work in the same way as your current meter, and won’t send any information to your supplier. Contact your supplier to check if they can do this.

If your supplier tells you your meter has expired and needs replacing with a smart meter, it’s worth checking before you agree.
