View Full Version : Royal Mail sold to Czech Tycoon Daniel Kretinsky : Unions happy

I was amazed to see
the Union Boss backing this take over.
He spoke on BBC1HD AM

[The sale of Royal Mail's parent company
to a Czech billionaire has been approved
by the government.
The £3.6bn takeover by Daniel Kretinsky's
EP Group has been given the go-ahead
after agreeing "legally binding"
undertakings.
The government will retain a so-called
"golden share" that will require it to approve
any major changes to Royal Mail's ownership,
HQ location and tax residency.
EP Group will also have to maintain the
one-price-goes-anywhere Universal Service
Obligation (USO),
which currently means it has to deliver
letters six days per week,
Monday to Saturday, and parcels
Monday to Friday.
The company has committed to maintaining
the USO for as long as it owns Royal Mail.
Earlier this year, Mr Kretinsky told the BBC
he would honour the service - in whatever
form it takes - "for as long as I am alive".
The USO is currently under review, with
Royal Mail suggesting to regulator
Ofcom that reducing second class deliveries
to every other weekday would save
up to £300m
a year and give the business
"a fighting chance".]

Of course; it's called neoliberalism and it's Tory policy through and through... we kept (we, as a country that is) voting Tory so... yes... everything got sold... and the people with the money to buy weren't British. It's not exactly a surprise.

The real irony I suppose is just the party being called "Conservative" :joker:. What shall we do with all of our Great British organisations and services? Are they profitable? No? Then we shall sell them to the highest Global bidder, of course!

"But now nothing is British any more :( "

Big shock.

You're certainly a typical something :joker:. I'd suggest you look up and understand what neoliberal economics are, who started the ball rolling, and why the principles of neoliberalism mean that if a foreign investor wants to buy Royal Mail (or London, or anything else) and has the funds to outbid other potential buyers... then it will be sold to that foreign investor. There is no way around this in free market neoliberalism.

We're in this bizarre situation where we now have a group of (confused, undereducated) people crowing and advocating for Tory free-market economics whilst at the same time getting upset that the people who had the most money for buying in that free market weren't from a pub in Farnborough.

In short;

If you want free reign right-wing free-market economics, ultimately everything in the country is going to be owned by investors from abroad. Mostly the Middle East and Asia.

It's that simple.

I probably added it to block the same word without the 'd', for some reason. I could change to allow the whole word.

I bet it was because certain banned members who can't be discussed were using the word in question very liberally in abusive PM's from their big big house? :skull:

James can't we just change it so that most words are uncensored, but add an intro video that plays every time the site loads, that shouts PEGI 15!! Then it's the fault of the kids themselves if they continue to browse. I mean let's face it... a few naughty words is minimally harmful compared to some of the other content they're going to find in SD's...

I doubt it was because of PMs. Seems to have been added sometime ago, so I would guess it was related to posts about celebrities or housemates.

That would be a bit annoying.

I did actually come across those interstitial type ads on another site earlier, and thought that would annoy people on here.

Try and find an English person delivering parcels

People used to be really vile about HMs a few years ago, especially female HMs so I'd say it was something to do with that alright

There was a few people this year complaining about how vile people spoke about Ali and I was thinking bloody hell, these comments were so tame compared to stuff that used to get posted a few years ago

The real issue is that I can't actually think of a delivery company that isn't dire. Amazon Prime is pretty reliable but that's only for Amazon stuff. Maybe it's a conspiracy.

Maybe you need to learn to read and stick to the topic then.

And in answer to your ridiculous post about foreign delivery drivers, if the lazy English actually wanted jobs then they’d be English delivery drivers. Don’t see why that’s such an issue for you. Do you have to be a certain nationality to deliver parcels?

Just say you’re racist and be done with it

My experience is that all the delivery services are good. With a service that is country wide, there will always be problems somewhere, it's the nature of the beast, a bit like the NHS
