A reporter
Live on CNN HD Live
The British reporter
just told them this Fire has Jumped over the Highway.
He said it usually breaks it,
but due to the warm winds, the Fire JUMPED over
six lanes
Its just after 6PM there
the worse is still to come
Many left the cars on the road
and then went on foot.
Those Cars Exploaded as the fire got to them

…2 lives already lost and more than 1000 homes and places of business destroyed already and the speed in which its growing is staggering…I was reading about a Vet who was taking many pets to safety…

Obviously I do have sympathy for the people this is happening to, but part of me feels like the majority of houses this seems to be happening to are those for the mega rich, who probably have another house or two. …I don’t know what insurance would cover in terms of financial recompense…but a home is built on so many emotional aspects as well, no matter what the wealth of a person…Billy Crystal was talking about the loss of his home and that he’d lived there for 45yrs, it’s where his children spent their childhoods and grew to adulthood…and maybe Billy’s home was filled with their own children as well…/…so much lost in those flames that would be heartbreaking for anyone, I think…

President Biden lets slip real reason LA fire hydrants
were dry when flames began as Gavin Newsom
and Karen Bass cling to their jobs
[President Biden claimed that
Los Angeles fire hydrants hadn't run dry
because of a water shortage,
but due to power being cut to water pumps
because of the killer wildfires.
As of Thursday, seven people have died
in one of the most destructive blazes
in the county's history, over 10,000 structures
are destroyed, roughly 400,000 customers
statewide were without power and over
180,000 have been evacuated.
The systemic failures in the deep blue city have
led many to wonder how things
could've gotten this out of hand - and
led many to call
for the resignation of Mayor Karen Bass
and Governor Gavin Newsom.]

I have a few friends in LA (from different areas completely, including some up in the San Fernando Valley) who I've got to know for years now via social media through our artwork and all of them have been evacuated from their homes.
One put on yesterday that her home, her grandparents home, her kids schools (both high school and elementary) are all completely gone. Whole neighbourhoods have been flattened overnight. The aerial photographs of the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood is just harrowing, reminiscent of a warzone or something from a post-Apocalyptic movie.

Leaked memo reveals LA Mayor Karen Bass demanded her fire department cut
an extra $49 million just ONE WEEK before wildfires broke out
https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2025/01/10/15/93960771-14271021-Los_Angeles_Mayor_Karen_Bass_demanded_her_Fire_Dep artment_make_a-a-23_1736521218061.jpg
This cut is already on top of $17.6million of cuts in her latest budget.
The extra cuts, requested just days before fires broke out and devastated
swathes of Los Angeles, would have shut down 16 fire stations and crippled the
department's ability to respond to emergencies, sources said.

[Mandy Moore told her followers

homeless by the LA fires.
The actress - one of the A-listers whose

But Moore did not hold back when

She's a singer, but she's also an actress yeah. She was popular during the 90s, has been in a few movies, has also sang for Disney.
I really don't understand the contempt for wealthy people losing their belongings, their homes, their memories... Sounds so hard faced. It's like someone losing everything in this country and being reminded people in other counties have less to lose, so suck it up. The lack of empathy is real and hard to read.
I agree. I think every person's situation being unique has to be seen in its own context. We don't know how extensive the damage is for some of them. For some it may have been their retirement home and that was all their wealth, basically. So yes so and so may or may not have more money, but consider too, these are people who have worked and lived their own lives. It's hard to lose anything you've built. Consider too "the rich" are often in positions where just a bit more pressure can be applied collectively and maybe things can change.. after all people who put down huge chunks of money to put roots someplace is invested in the community. They have to be to have so much of their income invested in that property... especially without insurance :spin:. So they're more likely than the average person to say something about the long term issues since it's going to still impact them significantly and it could result in the change needed. I doubt it for a number of reasons, but with God, it's always possible. Anyway, some of these people, for better or worse, are now very tied to what happened in LA out of necessity, so they'll have to recover somehow. If they were carrying a mortgage and uninsured, even temporarily, they're now underwater (the irony..) on those mortgage(s). People with less money or no roots to pick up can leave more easily, I think. It's very hard to do that for people who are much older, have family ties in an area and are already settled... and whether they've sunk 100K or 1M in a home, it's not just restarting their lives but also have to rebuild financially from that point...

The thing is
Would those rich celebrities and rich people in general help others?
The answer is no , so you can easily see why people that are already struggling couldn’t give a toss about rich people and what they have lost

…lots of people have heard of Mandy Moore, she isn’t someone who is just known in America…she has a long career since the 90’s but has more recently been in one of the most successful TV series, This is Us, which has been nominated for and won multiple awards and ran for 6 seasons…

…to be fair to the wealthy celebrities who have lost their homes in the fire…whenever there is a disaster, they’re some of the first to organise fundraising events and to highlight the help needed to rally help from others…and when they do, they often get criticism for that…oh, there they are in their ivory towers/type thing and how condescending/they have no idea…but with this, they’re experiencing and have every idea of how it feels to lose their homes and so many belongings with personal attachment…and they’re still getting that criticism of…oh, well they can rebuild so much more easily…of course they can, but they’re still feeling a loss…of the ‘regular and everyday people’ who have lost their homes…some will be in a better financial position than others and that’s just the way of it but it doesn’t take away that the loss of a home and memories and much loved possessions etc in it is the loss of a home and memories and memories and much loved possessions in it no matter who the owner or occupant…one of the privileges that the wealthy celebrities have is that they’re in a position going forward to help raise funds for those impacted who don’t have that wealth…

The fires are started by people with varying degrees of negligence, but very few fires start spontaneously. I'm always a bit torn by these fires because you have pretty ordinary people mixed in with the super wealthy and it's difficult to feel sorry for the super wealthy who could and probably do, live in multiple properties around the world

This has been the suspicious since the beginning. The speculations are that it was either as a cover up since Hollyweird is being investigated, or for some kind of political advantage.
Now that they're catching some arsonists it would be interesting to see what their reasoning was. If they are illegal immigrants it would just be too convenient.

Of course I sympathise with the rich but I suppose just as they seem out of touch with everyday people I suppose I can't relate to them that much either most of the times. Whilst the fire was happening, one of them asked if anyone knew of private firefighters that could keep his house safe while the rest burned down. He took down the tweet because he got backlash.
Fundraising is great, I see some celebrities are already doing it. But who is pouring into the fundraisers? The public.
If we shouldn't judge celebrities like Heidi Montag for forcing tears on camera then Meghan and Harry shouldn't be judged for actually helping and pouring into some of their own funds

One reason we have so many insurance companies leaving disaster-prone areas is because federal money enables mismanagement of maintenance districts and misplaced funds. The money NEVER makes it to the people. If that person has any kind of valid insurance, it's an automatic denial. So even if State Farm, etc, offers a pittance, they're SOL.
If it's not covered, one has to get a denial letter from their insurance carrier which causes a $0 claim which WILL skyrocket their rates. It's not worth it only to be denied by FEMA or only to get the $770 quoted.
We always get "fully funded" where we are and the money goes straight to City Hall/local politicians where they get to disappear it. The massive numbers go to local governments and "loans". Sometimes the local govt will create programs, take some applications and cry there needs to be changes (building of reservoirs, more crisis mgmt, etc), but then almost never follow up on any of those things. Maybe one or two houses are fixed to make it seem like it's just taking time, but it never gets to the people and by time it's forgotten, the money is already gone.
FEMA itself will do "grants", but they're rare. Most people are stuck with SBA loans instead to pay off their own disaster (at a very low rate, but still). They consider that "assistance"... and then the applicant still has to deal with their homeowners insurance jumping up in rates because they have to "prove" they can't cover a flood which no primary insurer does... FEMA is a scam. Congress is a scam. "Disaster assistance" is a scam... and the $7XX payout is the typical shut up money that we can expect from our politicians to kick the can down the road.
So no. It's not "Republicans". It's all of them. Part of the reason we keep having to raise the debt ceiling is because of these payouts. No one wants them to stop because it's easier to budget when one doesn't have to consider a potential disaster. It's better to wait until the aftermath that way they can take the federal govt handout. What taxpayer in a disaster is going to say no to "disaster assistance". It needs to stop.
More examples...
Flood insurance program mismanagement

13 Investigates learns more Houston-area homes are repeatedly flooding
https://abc13.com/post/13-investigates-learns-houston-area-homes-repeatedly-flooding/14891909/
^^ The above is more common than some think. The Flood district (which we pay a specific tax towards) here has bought out plots, and at least in one case I can think of a whole subdivision, with their funding and turned the neighborhoods/blocks back to proper flood plains... no concrete, housing, just trees and fields...in other words, it's somewhere else for the water to go into the ground rather than downstream into other people's home... and the homes of people who once lived there...
FEMA claims used to be more rare here when I was growing up. It was considered reserved for those who didn't have the means to recover, people living in apartment, single parent families, etc... then media started to encourage everyone to apply for it everytime a storm came through and politicians started to beg for more "help". The city didn't get as much scrutiny as long as the checks cleared, so they stopped doing critical maintenance or oversight was lessened. It was never designed to "bail out" individuals who live in disaster prone areas where the local governments aren't doing the necessary work to maintain their district.
FEMA had to come into our area when we had two major longstanding power outages in our city last year. They shouldn't have had to do that, but both the city/state/local utility ignored vegetation... oh, just like in CA... and the overgrown/unmanaged vegetation (mostly trees) during the Derecho storm which was worse than the hurricane.. but then the subsequent Cat 1 Hurricane (which was mild by our standards) obliterated parts of a poorly managed grid due to overgrown vegetation... and so many people suffered and some died because they weren't told the truth about why this was still happening. They thought their leaders had it. Many couldn't even get access to up to date information because the power had knocked out cell. So too many people sat around thinking their power would just "be back" soon... some people stayed in very dangerous temperatures to protect their homes and some did not make it out. If we all knew our grid was this mismanaged or our city was so unprepared, most of us would've purchased generators and in the very least, would not have filled the fridge up with food which is the usual thing to do before a storm comes from. My immediate neighbors all have power generation now (including us), so at least we've learned our lesson.

Mexico and Canada
are helping with the LA Fires.
Good of them to give Firemen.
Even the Ukraine Leader
has offered to help.

[LA wildfires: New warning issued with
Santa Ana winds set to return
Hot, dry winds turned sparks into infernos
in California last week - and now they're back.]
[Scorching, deadly fires that tore
through Los Angeles apace last week were
whipped up by furious winds that had barrelled
in from the desert.
The blazes are still raging. And this week the
so-called Santa Ana or "Devil"
winds are back. This is what it could mean.]

The New Fire
has caused over 30,000
to leave their homes.
Money missing and a lot of homes can't go through rebuilding process because of so many regulations and such making it very difficult for people to start work...
GE1-8w9ZiuQ
Adam Carolla goes through the area to show what has been rebuilt (or not rather...) he'd predicted this by the way because of the amount of red tape required just to do even basic things in CA...
