[Andy Burnham says there should
be a 'limited' national inquiry into
scandal just hours after Cabinet minister
insists the idea has been 'ruled out' - while PM
is 'open-minded' despite ordering his
MPs to block one]

He's not all people's cup of tea but I rate Andy Burnham really high.

I wish he was the Labour leader and PM.
He looks for compromise and that's needed across the board on many issues

Can't stand Andy Burnham but he's dead right about this. Too many cover ups and officials who were either involved or knew about what was going on. There needs to be an enquiry and anyone complicit needs to face consequences

only a limited inquiry? it should be a full inquiry :fist:

Well that's still going on. That's the trouble with inquiries - they take months to plan, years to carry out, months to review the results, then years to implement the findings

and everyone culpable is dead when they get published

Just round up every Labour councilor in the North of England between 2009-2018 and put them in jail for 10 years would probably be better

I think he means limited in scope (to Pakistani rape gangs).

When Labour rallies look like this, ought we be surprised that not a single one
of their MPs backed a nationwide inquiry?

We thought Bojo was bad but Starmer being open minded despite whipping MPs to vote against is very suspect, what is there to hide?

Not a fan of enquiries myself as there nothing changes, but still

So glad I spoiled my vote....

I agree more with Andy but as MTVN said, Inquiries inevitably lead to time consuming just by the nature of them.

So I can also understand the government and even majority of parliament's line too.

After all in the vote, Badenoch couldn't even get all her MPs to support it, at least 10% mustn't have done to only have 111 votes.
Reform obviously, jumping on any controversial issue, they supported an Inquiry.
Although had Labour said it was having one, the attacks from Reform would have more likely been, why have another Inquiry and waste more time .

It's odd in a nationwide general election, not one Party was calling for a new inquiry into this serious issue.
Not Sunak either after that election was lost.
Plus nothing from Badenoch during the recent Conservative leadership election either.

I can support both having another and also not having another, by then just making sure ALL the recommendations of the last one being implemented first.
So no more delays for that implementation being likely.
