View Full Version : Let me be clear
"Let me be clear"
"We need to be very clear"
"It couldn't be clearer"
I wish these phrases had gone with the New Year. They're all doing it now. Bah!

Yes Maru
Apathy can be caused
…I hear you loud and clear, Maru…
…I don’t know who’s saying it…?…/what the thread is…we need to stay clear, though…

Maru's gonna circle back to this question, just you wait and see. :smug:

…I should have made it more clear…?…(…I clearly shouldn’t browse or respond to threads when I’ve just woken up…that couldn’t be more clear, Ray…)…
i'm not sure you are being clear Maru

We need to look at this 'in the round' that one appeared during covid, very annoying

This is a favourite of Starmer. Says 'let me be really clear' in response to a question then completely fails to answer that question
I'm glad you've hammered that point home.

I 100% agree.
This really annoys me with him.
It's not just as to questioning either.
He has a topic in speeches which could gather great interest.
Where he talks about being clear yet by the end of the speech.
Nothing has been learned or detailed and not clear at all.
He's not the only one by any means but he's definitely one of the very worst as to delivering anything clearly.

Completely agree with Maru.
I also hate...
"There needs to be a conversation..."
And
"There needs to be a conversation and it won't be an easy one..."

I don't dislike those phrases in themselves, it's usually true... the frustrating part is how often it's said, and then the conversation in question simply never happens. Whatever there needed to be a conversation about, is kicked back into the long grass.
i think we need to have an inquiry about this
…I don’t know who’s saying it…?…/what the thread is…we need to stay clear, though…
From the Trump thread:
…is that part of a statement about the fires/situation right now…?…
Let me be crystal clear, OK, Ammi *head bob*... these phrases were very common during the campaigns and continue to be common speech... and it's not died out. Not at all. It's become a mind virus and now everyone is saying it... Congress, pundits, politicians, Facebook founders, yes even the LA Fire Chief uses such phrases... I even heard a clip earlier where Pam Bondi used it in her testimony today... it lives on..
It can be heard a lot also if you are unfortunate enough to ever catch clips of Cable news here in the US and it's when someone wants to let you know they're super determined to be sincere. It's a way to try to sound authoritative and like they are operating based on a group assumptions, but imo it's a tell that the person is feeling under pressure and they need a good character defense. It's almost always used in a preemptive manner. But, it tips off the listener that the next bits they're about to say are going to be useless dribble... it's a minor annoyance, sure, but it's a memorable one
Kamala used it the most, and I'm sure it's coached PR speak, because so many of them are doing it at this point.
Sigh!
Edited for more clarity
