Paul Danan dead at 46: Hollyoaks star passes away months after revealing he battled respiratory failure due to 'obsessive' vape usage

Jeez, that's scary this is the first we're seeing of the long term effects of vaping. That's very worrying, so many young people/teens are vaping, could even turn out worse than cigarettes

That's terrible. More awareness needs to be brought to this because I think people think it's a safer option to smoking. I mean maybe it is I admit I don't know much about it but it's clearly not safe

I don't see the point of them. I get that they can deliver nicotine without tobacco, but so does chewing gum and patches and you don't have to breathe them in. I think they could encourage people to smoke. And they stink....

The difference is also the process of feeling like you're still smoking which gum or patches don't do. Originally being sold as a way to get off cigarettes but they've turned into a bigger monster with a lot of previous smokers now solely vaping and the new generation going straight for vapes instead of cigarettes. What a money spinner as cigarette are starting to die off

The main trouble with vapes and their popularity is the flavours. If they did away with the flavours they wouldn’t be nearly as popular.

In Australia they restricted flavours to only mint, menthol and tobacco.

It would be a start anyway but it just seems crazy that they're just going to replace cigarettes which they're apparently trying to phase out (by "they" I mean most governments)

Ammi

…sadly with vapes, they were promoted as an ‘aid’ to giving up cigarettes at the beginning …and unlike other aids, they kind of ‘mimicked’ smoking, didn’t they…

…Paul Damon had smoked cigarettes for many, many years as well and had obviously just transferred his addiction with vaping but I would think that it would have all been contributory, rather than linked only to his vaping…I mean, I don’t know what his diagnosis and condition and what contributed etc…

In February 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed
2,807 cases of e-cigarette or vaping use-associated lung injury (EVALI) and 68 deaths
attributed to that condition.

“These cases appear to predominantly affect people who modify their vaping devices or
use black market modified e-liquids. This is especially true for vaping products
containing THC

Yes and the even bigger (potentially) issue is that if they're illegal anyway then there's no regulation on their manufacture, so even besides the drugs, there are most likely other chemicals in the mix that aren't allowed to be in "real" vapes.

Though I would suspect that even plain ol' vaping is more harmful than is yet understood.

The question was always "are they as bad as cigarettes" and the answer is most likely no ... ... IF people were smoking them like they smoked cigarettes - i.e. 20, 40 even 60 times a day. With vapes, an awful lot of people are basically vaping from the moment they open their eyes until bed time... all day every day... the equivalent of hundreds of cigarettes.

Pumping toxic gases directly into your lungs was never gonna be a good idea ..

Plus they are not regulated so you have zero idea what substances/chemicals you are putting in your body !

Pure unadulterated madness ..

We kept crossing paths with a couple in a wildlife park in the summer .. the woman never stopped vaping over about 4 hours .. we saw the cloud of smoke/ steam above her all afternoon

Hollyoaks actor and reality TV star Paul Danan died at his Bristol home from a cocktail of drugs including cocaine and heroin, an inquest opening has been told.

Danan died in January at the age of 46.

The inquest was opened and adjourned on Tuesday at Avon Coroner's Court, with senior coroner Maria Voisin setting a provisional date of 28 May for the actor's full inquest hearing.

Danan, who played Sol Patrick in Hollyoaks, was also known for his appearances on the likes of Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother.

Coroner's officer Alexis Camp told the hearing that Danan was pronounced dead at his home in Brislington, Bristol, at 5.20pm on 15 January.

His body was identified at the scene by his partner, Melissa Crooks.

Ms Camp said: "The circumstances are that Mr Danan was found unresponsive at his home address.

"Emergency services attended and confirmed he had sadly died. A post-mortem has taken place and samples have been removed for further analysis."

The court was told that the provisional cause of Danan's death is combined toxicity of heroin, methadone, coedine, pregabalin, cocaine, zopiclone, contributed to by benzodiazepine use.

Ms Camp said: "I understand there are no family concerns," adding that "no note was left" by the star.
