View Full Version : A strange experience in the barbers

There I was just coming to the end of my haircut when a bloke comes in and says - 'hey Frank remember me!? Jason's lad' and they say a quick hello which is fine. But then the conversation went like this:

'You hear I'm having a kid now Frank?'

'Bloody hell! And is that a good thing?'

'Well yeah it's good it's just with the wrong woman'

'Are you still with her?'

'Yeah but she's the wrong one. I have so many reasons to leave her. I want to get back with my ex'

'But that ships sailed has it?'

'Nah I don't think so'

Then before I know what has happened he has plonked himself down in the barber chair next to me and instead of finishing my haircut my barber is giving life advice to this lad telling him he can't just stay with the girl because of the child and if he's not happy then it's better to break up now then just stay with her for the sake of it. This goes on and on and eventually he finishes off my haircut but all while playing therapist to this young guy which made me late to return to work.

Now two things occured to me:

1. How brazen of him to air his dirty laundry like that in a barbers shop full of strangers. Also how inappropriate to be talking about the mother of his child like that while still being with her :puzzled:

2. Was this good advice from Frank? Should the fella not give it a chance for the sake of the child and stop pining after his ex which would no doubt end in tears? I get the logic of leaving but maybe the guy should suck it up and take some accountability.

Anyway I even got dragged into this with the guy asking me for my opinion but I said I'd leave the advice to Frank and simply wished him luck

Yes very brazen and indiscreet.

The advice was good.

You are all ignoring the point of the story which is Jason's lad and his troubled love life :oh:

For £30 id expect a trim and a happy ending from a nice bit of brass

Sadly it is indicative of alot of young men these days, they don't seem to care one jot about bringing a child into the world, only to up sticks when the going gets tough and off they go leaving the woman behind to deal with the fall out, they then become 'single' Mums who everyone likes to tread on because they are single and nobody points the finger at the carefree Dad who has just buggered off and in most cases does not support their offspring but expects someone else to pick up the tab

1) I would love that, piping hot tea with a haircut?? Yes please.

2) No, he shouldn't try to stick it out for the kid. It will leave him miserable, it's unfair on her to waste her time when she could be finding someone who actually wants to be there, and the kid will not turn out better for it either. "Sticking together for the kids!" never, ever works out well, for anyone involved.

He should, of course, stick around as a full and committed co-parent to the kid, both financially and emotionally.

Also £30! You’re being mugged off my friend. I get my hair, hot towel and proper beard styling with after aftercare for £22.

£22 is well cheap if you're getting the handjob and everything.

The hand job is extra. I only opt for that on special occasions. :hehe:

Some of the blame definitely lies with the girl

Sounds like they only been together a short time and already having a child with a waster

It was extremely unprofessional of your Barber….personally I would not be going there again.
As for the other guy…what a complete dickhead.

There is no indication how long they have been together?

People can hark after exes for years

also I very much doubt she knows he has feelings for his ex....but yeah she is still to blame :skull:

He knew what was in his head so using protection might be the way forward for him

I remember I once walked into a hairdresser's and saw to my amazement that Geri Halliwell was the hairdresser. I looked above her and saw a sign that read: Haircuts: £14, Handjobs: £10. I said to Geri Halliwell, 'Are you the one who gives the handjobs?'

She told me she was.

I said, 'Well, wash your hands, Ginger, I want a haircut.'

It's a good job you were decisive. Stopped her asking what you wanted.

Exactly, that's why I don't think my barbers advice was necessarily correct because he's just indulging him. This guy now thinks he'll be justified in walking out and even that he's doing his child a favour rather than facing up to his own issues

Cant be that much of a waster at those prices.

Pretty scruffy but he was a tradie on his lunch break, they always seem to have plenty of dosh

Thats the trouble when you find a good barber...you don't want to offend them and possibly lose them. I would have been fuming if I was on a time restriction.
Its a shame he couldn't have shown you a bit more respect as you are paying for his time and cut...I think I might have said "I'm really sorry but I have to be back at work soon...."

The moment he paused your hair....to give a therapy session to that guy, I'd be tempted to get up and leave and say " I'll come back later for you to finish ,as I have an emergency " .
