It’s not specific to that thread. It’s every time with you, and this thread is further proof of that. You don’t seem to be capable of chiming your opinion in naturally. It always sounds like a for-and-against debate that you don’t commit to on a directly personal level. And it does my head in. Periodt.

Like I said, I definitely don’t have an issue with your opinions or even with you as a person. It’s your communication style. It’s too eager to turn everything into a debate rather than letting opinions flow more naturally. Maybe neutral wasn’t the right word in this specific context but your style of expressing an opinion is just oh-so-very … ugh. It always sounds like a semi-formal debate.
The whole thing about primary-school teacher vs. just-plain ‘go back to primary school’ is a prime example of whar I’m talking about. When are you gonna get it?

So for an opinion to be natural it has to be ill-considered, sweeping and one-sided. Fair enough; I shall not be doing that so your head's going to continue to be done in, sadly. Like I said; don't read it if you're struggling, read it and reply if you want and I'll reply as I see fit. I'm not a massive fan of your posting style either but it's nowhere close to being enough of an issue to give a second thought :umm2:. Bit odd really.

I’m not anti-trans. (that’s one thing I’m as clear on as you). I’m just talking about your general style of posting, which cuts across threads, and the thing is, this thread isn’t proving me wrong. But just know that “simplified” and ‘less objectively contentious, in every sitiation’ are not the same thing.

It's a debates forum and surely - SURELY - there are more than enough people casually running their mouthes on here already. I feel absolutely no need to join in. In fact when it does happen it's an indication that I'm having an off day and probably shouldn't have logged on at all.

Think we've stumbled on part of the issue there; I'm never posting with any intention of "proving anyone wrong", I'm not here to change hearts and minds so if you've got that impression you're off the mark. Which, again, doesn't matter - I literally couldn't care less. And that's not a personal jibe. I care as much about your impression of me as I care about anyone on TiBB's impression of me, which is zero. I hope at least that much is clear :worry:.

Clarifying that you’re not trying to prove me wrong is another example of precisely what I’m talking about. OMFG. You’re just not getting it, are you?

I don't habitually obliterate my evenings with alcohol or any other substances, I'm not sorry to say. Slight ODD means that I can't see a thread sitting with comments left and locked to reply; like I said ridiculous choice from whoever locked it, and the only reason I had to make a follow-on thread. It's not about caring, I'm perfectly aware of "how to be liked" on this forum, it's not complicated, and not a game I'm interested in. I care about fairness, I could not care less if anyone "likes" it, with a slight leaning to preferring most don't on here. For fairly obvious reasons.
I'm not un-calm

Yes but Redway it seems now that mods get 3 reports from members and rather than moderate its just let's close the thread. That is pretty useless to keep the forum alive?

QT and CD are big boys. Closing and deleting threads/comments when two posters don’t see eye-to-eye and not perm.-banning people like michael21 immediately, letting them roam the forum for years with all their perviness and illiterate abusiveness to boot, makes this site look cheaper than swearing or people disagreeing.
We’re fundamentally all here because we have some level of affiliation with Big Brother. Arguments are subject to modification pre.-transmission but they’re not necessarily filtered out completely. The men, women and teenagers of TiBB should be able to not see eye-to-eye, within reason, and not be cancelled.

No real issue with closing a thread that's gone completely off-piste but you can't leave behind the posts that lead to it being closed - or at least, mine seem to be regularly deleted when it's those that have caused the thread to be closed . I'm being 100% genuine when I say all I'm asking for is fairness and consistency - it's not so much about the actual decision.

Fair enough, deleting a thread is often better for that reason but that can also make people aggrieved when they spend time posting on a thread and it just disappears

Do you believe that you have a right over other human beings to decide what they can and can't have opinions on?
I understand you have to moderate over outright abuse (which I'm probably guilty of myself, but only when I've felt attacked by you)
But arguments get heated. Humans are passionate about their beliefs. That's what makes debates good and healthy. Humans learn from those interactions. Always have, always will. Censoring people's opinions, and punishing those people for them is just wrong.

The forum should be run by AI that detects insults removes posts infracts and bans as appropriate
My opinion as never changed, members should not be mods
We get mods have lives to live and can’t mod 24/7 and that’s another reason for AI
It’s human nature to be biased even if you claim not to be
It’s easier to judge than it is to be judged

You actively and specifically requested that I reframe/rephrase my posts in a "less formal, less debate-y, more chatty and conversational style" because it's your preference in terms of what posts you like to read. The entitlement is off the charts; I don't write my posts for you? Or for anyone else on here?
So no, I won't make them less formal and "more chatty" for your comfort. Because I'm not your primary school teacher and I don't care if you like, nor if you even read, my posts if you don't like the way they're written, and I'm not contractually obliged to meet a "standard".

Why would I not respond in kind, when the staff have no intention of stopping any of that? I've tried multiple times to engage the staff on the trolling, gaslightling and nonsense rightwing propaganda that's completely infested this forum but James has made it abundantly clear that he's not interested. Show me a good forum or even a good thread and I'll engage with it like it's a good thread, show me trash and I'll fire back some trash.
Yeah I get that but it still does not have to involve personal comments about members, their relationships, or how they use their personal downtime
I dont know who TiBBs power couple are ...is it Neem and MTVN...that would make sense :omgno:

Fair - but I'd challenge you to name someone that I've "gotten personal" with who didn't go there first.
"How they use their personal downtime" might need more explanation; I think it's OK to have thoughts and opinions on certain recreational activities without it being off-limits because someone might be offended. I'm not sure how some discussions would be able to happen if that was totally off the table. I have some specific examples in mind here but you might be referring to something else.
This is Vicky's longest post on the forum, by my calculations.

I hope that's clearer now?
I think it was clear in the first place, personally, but I get that you also didn't like that style, either.
...given the starting point of this entire debacle, I'm not going to patronise you by explaining it to you. You're a clever chap you'll figure it out if you want to, and let it slide if you can't be arsed. Right?
Your inferences of “chatty” are bull, let me tell you. There’s a way to present your opinions in a way that doesn’t sound like you’re reading a tribunal or trying to balance an argument and still sound sophisticated or formal. I manage to do it often enough.
I don’t even recall telling you to switch up your style. Just that I find your style of posting annoying sometimes. I still acknowledge that you have the right to crack on and post however you like.
…I’ll just add that I agree with Quantum in regards to a debate section being something to consider …I recall back in the day that Kate…(…I think it was…)…suggested this and it wasn’t felt necessary at the time or something that would add to the forum…I think in the earlier days of making this section ‘serious debates and news’ it might have worked ok…?…but news …click bait news/‘outrage’ news…’fake news’ and just news in general..both mainstream and social media etc…have changed so much over recent times and because many threads in this section are based on the media…?…which gives very ‘select’ information it would be better to separate into an actual debate section and especially with the more controversial topics…
…the only other thing I’m going to say to you, Redway…?..is that Lord oh Lord, I’m so used to having my own posting style criticised in every which way …and it’s quite hurtful because you’re basically being criticised just for being you…there are lots of positives to take from Quantum’s posts…as well as lots of information and lots of thought etc…but most of all…it’s him…it’s how he posts and it’s uniquely him …please think about the criticism that you’re laying at him and that you’re criticising someone for being and individual and being comfortable in their own unique style…

The implication was definitely that it should be changed and I believe the phrase "I hope he learns to..." was used, even. Can't be verified now as it looks like the thread is gone.
Regardless, and again I don't even mean this defensively as - just as Ammi says - everyone has their own style but to address the bit in bold... I don't want to sound like you Redway. I don't know why you'd assume other people would be inclined to use your posting style as a template for great reading. I don't particularly like the way your posts flow, and we've disagreed on some of your rigid thinking on a couple of topics, it just doesn't irk me enough to have "brought it up"... we obviously just have very different views on what's an enjoyable read and that's OK.
If I'm going to be totally blunt - I think I pissed you off a few months back by suggesting that Samaritans (while being in many ways great) has plenty of issues, and you feel defensive of that organisation and you've not quite let it go yet. Plus the whole debacle about "the immorality sharing with spouses".

You think this is about Samaritans? LMFAO. No. It’s about you. You piss me off all the time. It’s not about an isolated instance of it. Deflecting to external incidents to absolve yourself of the acknowledgement that not everyone’s a number-one fan of your pedantic-debating style of posting is you all over.
I never said anyone should use my posting style as a template for anything. Again, that’s you and your daft, silly assumptions and inferences getting ahead of what people are really saying.

It's not about me though is it, I'm not the one with the issue, you have a bee in your bonnet about not liking the way I post. It can only be about you. Maybe I'm wrong about the grudge-holding, maybe it's just more rigid thinking... you don't like how I share my opinions, and that means how I share my opinions is "wrong", and how you do it is "right".
You've shown your hand a bit with that "I manage to do it often enough." comment - you have a sky high opinion of your own posts and posting style, which is fine, I can appreciate that, I like a bit of self-aggrandiding myself so that's probably where we've ended up clashing here. The difference I suppose is that I don't want you to post "more like I do" - I'm happy for you to have your own style. You can be happy for me, too :)

okay so we got to the end of this now, its not about posting style, its just a personal clash....it happens, you just need to move on with it, either put QB on ignore and go in to bat everytime he posts, the choice is yours really

Personal clashing is exactly what it’s not. I fundamentally don’t like the way he posts (and he’s entitled to feel the same, of course) and felt like saying a few words about it. This has nothing to do with Samaritans.

Nonsense the entire foundation of your argument was that I should stop posting the way I do, and that you'd prefer it if I switched to "taking more of a stance" in a more conversational style. It's not an assumption - it's what you said. I understand why you might want to walk it back though; so...
If that's not what you were saying, what were you saying when you commented on;
- Not liking the style of my posts
- Thinking my posts are "too formal"
- Too academic
- Argue both sides too often
- Like a courtroom
- Thinking my posts "don't take a clear stance"
- Hoping I "learn that it doesn't have to be that way"
- Pointing out that "you manage to do it"
- (there was more but that's plenty)
If you weren't suggesting that 1) there's something wrong with it and also that 2) your way of doing things is inherently better...
...
What were you doing/saying?
I'm happy to wait for a decent answer; one that does in fact answer, and isn't just "Not that / no I wasn't!"

Until you can find a direct quote of me saying “I wish QB would post exactly like me and isn’t entitled to his own posting style, no-matter how much it irritates me”, you’re chatting air. Total air. This whole thread is a perfect example of you being annoying in the way I’m talking about and I keep saying it. But you do you. Let’s just leave it there.
Kids (the hyperactive, noisy ones) eating in pubs irritates me, likewise, but I’m not saying it’s right or wrong inherently. Waiting in long queues is annoying but it’s just part of life and the right thing to do. Polarising my opinion in terms of “Redway thinks this is either right or wrong” is just another example of what I’m talking about. An opinion can’t just be an opinion to you. There’s always gotta be a for-or-against, a question of absolute truth or “right” or not. That was not what I was saying. You can know the value or necessity of something or someone and still find it/them annoying personally. Do you know that?

You've already mentioned feeling gaslit. Consider too up until this point, through your own posts it's like reading through a detailed manual for all other "interested" parties as to how to best find and press your buttons. This is how effective trolling works and some people have mastered it because they have more time than others, so it's not a simple skill. It's a massive energy investment. I have QB on ignore. I really recommend this.

Note: It's actually because I called out the blinkered Trump support but OK. I've quoted or referenced you a grand total of 28 times (easily searchable) and the only negative thing I've said to you, ever, has been about the Trump support. But if you have an example of this personal trolling, by all means share.
Note 2: Redway started this entire discussion in a now-deleted thread, completely unprompted, decided to tell me that he finds my posts irritating. Not my posts about or directed at him I hasten to add - just my random posts on the thread topics. He doesn't like 'em. It's all very sad for him? But apparently I'm so good at this that I can magic up other people starting beef out of thin air. That is quite impressive.

I mean I feel like I've said in the past and still stand by, it's an ignore button, not a "you have to ignore me" button, it feels especially inappropriate to suggest that the thread starter should disregard people's posts on the thread they started  but if the intent is for it to be used for crafting echo chambres, I'm sure there's a vBulletin plug in that can do that.
As it goes;
I'd even be happy to stick with "pls don't talk to or reply to me" requests outside of SD's. The idea that anyone can pick-n-choose who can and cant reply to their comments in the debates section is ludicrous stuff. You can of course choose whose posts you read and choose to interact with, as the current function allows.
I tend not to use ignore either as it happens because I too am nosy and just end up clicking the "see post" button anyway. I'm more inclined to just rudely skip over or skim-read posts that I'm not interested in.
