I can’t ever remember feeling so uncomfortable watching anything worse than JoJo totally embarrassing Mickey tonight

Its clear he’s not a well man .. he bumps into furniture, he can’t find his way out of the Diary room without assistance so for JoJo to make a 72 year old guy look so ridiculous for sooo long was disrespectful and disgusting

All this whilst Mickey has been in the Diary Room saying how much he likes her and that they are buddies now

Shame on Patsy and that nobody actress for being involved as well

Its akin to them moving furniture around in a blind person’s house .. would that also be regarded as funny or amusing ?

It was more cringe and weird tbh.

It reminded me of Charlie's Nana routine from BB10.

Would you think it was ok if Mickey was your father and complete nomarks were making him look ridiculous for no other reason than to make some people laugh and to make Mickey look stupid

I would say to him that you have to develop thick skin in the Big Brother house.

Because there's a lot worse that happens on BB.

How is acceptable for three young women to make 72 year old guy so ridiculous or pathetic - just for their own amusement at the expense of Mickey

It was just a bizarre prank.

I think they were just having fun, but I also think Jojo is doing everything possible to hog camera time and advertise herself "to the crowd", that that part for me is becoming tiresome. But I have to see it the other way also, that that's just what she was taught to do from being a reality star from a very young age and it's how she's met success. So no arguments there. She is in the entertainment business and well, for some people this is their entertainment... is it my cup of tea? No.

If I were in Mickey's shoes, it wouldn't bother me. He probably couldn't care less. Not everything is bullying and sensitive levels do vary. So I respect that some people may see that and think it's very hurtful... especially those sensitive for the elderly. But I don't see Mickey as elderly in an infirm way. I think he's mentally capable and perfectly able to understand what is going on around him, but he has some obstacles others don't have to deal with. And why should he worry about what other people might think? He's 72.

It’s not bullying because she clearly isn’t hoping to harm or intimidate him with a little dress-up.

If you wanted to drive the ‘Jo Jo is mean to the homophobic man who implied he’d tie her up to change her sexuality’ train - I think an ‘unkind prank’ would be the last stop. But even that is a stretch.

No it isn't bullying.
I can understand that it seemed a bit unkind.

Bullying is now a word widely used inappropriately in my view.
Just look at someone the wrong way now and it's seen as bullying.
Ridiculous.

What happened here however was Micky was the only one not to see her appearance changed.
All the others had.
So he was the only one they could try it out on.
No one disagreed, no one objected.

Did he not suspect anything or did he just go along with it
Who knows.
Either way it was a bit of fun, far from making him look foolish, it actually showed him a good sport as to it.
Because he found it humerous once revealed.

Age shouldn't come into this.
They are ALL equal housemates.
Relieving a lot of boredom in the house must be very important at times.

What I liked was the inclusion of them all in the change of appearance and Micky clearly not bothered or offended at all by it either.
So no , no bullying.

If it had say been my Dad or my Grandad, well I think knowing how my Dad and Grandad were, they would have found it hilarious.

…I’m not sure what you’re defining as ‘loads of people’, Zizu…but I can’t see that this is a widely shared perspective in terms of media articles or even discussion points/threads on BB forums…what you’ve quoted…?…is that the eviction show discussion thread on DS…?…that’s barely a handful of posts and the type of posts often found in that vibe of thread because it’s all quick posting without time for much thought as the episode is airing…

The argument seems to be that he's effectively intellectually disabled (I don't think thats the case but it's what's being argued here)? And if that's true then its production/ITV that would be to blame if he was in a situation like is being described. If he's vulnerable he shouldn't be in there.

I would say, to be fair, that it wouldn't be the first time they've put clearly vulnerable people in the house.

But I don't think that's the case here.

Sure, but if you believe he's vulnerable because of that, then the people assessing who is fit to go into something like this are the ones to blame if there's a huge problem. If hes not well enough to handle anything the show might throw at him they should have assessed him and said no to him going in at all.

As it happens, I don't think he is particularly vulnerable, and I also think he clearly knew that it was Jojo and was just playing along, it was just a bit of fun. He likes her. Their sort-of-friendship that's emerging is one of the only interesting parts of the show currently.

He probably didn’t even know who was hugging him .. he may have put on a smiley face to cover any embarrassment - at being made to look so foolish

Are you sure you like him Zizu, you're being tougher on him than anyone, you're managing to make me feel sorry for the poor chap if he pops on TiBB and reads all this :joker:

Its not bullying...it was a bit mean imo. Its clear he struggles with issues, onset of dementia maybe or just taken too many whacks to the head. Its like watching the behaviour of the great Mohammad Ali in his later years. Personally I would not have done it...I would have felt like a mean girl but maybe she wants to be mean girl if she still harbours what he did the other day.
However, he took it really well and found it funny so fair play to him.

He could also be playing the buffoon? He could have tasked himself to play a role just to pass the time

I’m thinking pure unadulterated malice or simple and satisfying revenge whilst getting even more screen time

Pure unadulterated malice? Seriously?
You are given JoJo far too much credit there and it's a little over the top to say pure malice. That's worse than saying it was bullying behaviour. He found it funny....what's the problem?

This!!!

Anything to find a reason to hate Jojo really. Mickey probably took it as a joke too so I don’t get how this made you feel uncomfortable for him. He thought she looked unbelievable as a guy too

Not to be pedantic but the phrase "clutching at straws" has nothing to do with plastic drinking straws :nono:

It comes from a proverb in Thomas More's “Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation” (1534) which says, “A drowning man will clutch at straws.” It is said that the “straw” in this case refers to the sort of thin reeds that grow by the side of a river.

ergo

she is a bully and its all Ben's fault

She also didn't even decide to prank Mickey until she was already dressed up and people are acting like it was premeditated.

You can't justify him "making a joke" to her then vilify for her playing a joke on him. Its just hypocritical.

Before you ask, no it wouldn't make me uncomfortable if she did it to my Dad (who is 78). He, and I would find it hysterical, and Mickey looked quite amused by it when he found out

I personally agree with you on both points tbh.

I feel like some of those people on DS that Zizu's quoting on here are probably looking for any excuse to criticize Jojo because she made Mickey look bad during Lesbiangate.

Also DS has gotten more strange in recent years, there were about 3 members that got the best looking female contestant on Strictly thread shut down last year because it was "degrading to women."

Also they thought that their opinion were the majority even though over 50 votes were cast on that poll, so those three members in question were not great mathematicians.:joker:

Quite a lot of this series has been cringe. I have never used the fast forward button so much.

And JoJo 'dancing'. So embarrassing.

Fair point about a lot of this series being cringe so far.

I don't know much about DS. I've read a few threads a couple of times... and the comments are very knee jerk and expected from what I did see. I would agree for sure that some people are just looking for something to be outraged by (not you, Zizu...) ... it's like the voyeuristic version of internet bloodsports, I guess is one way to put that...

Mystic Mock

Surely you’ve noticed that basically everything confuses him .. he’s not dissimilar to Ozzy Osbourne in that respect possibly worse

He had to ask BB for assistance finding his way back from the diary room ffs

Ozzy is an Aston Villa supporter.

You can't get more confused than that.

Mickey had said at some point he had serious insomnia and was prone to missing entire days of sleep... I knew young people that missed sleep chronically, some due to health problems. They looked like death, were mentally fragile and you couldn't expect much of them.. lack of sleep will mimic many things in itself... if he's not getting adequate sleep in conjunction with other issues (like CTE), jet lag or just not being able to get quality sleep period. Imo, he needed his own bedroom with his sleep condition if he was going to make it through. Not even considering any withdrawal from drugs or alcohol. So much can explain his demeanor so I don't think we can assume very much... though I think if he had significant dementia, he would not be able to cope in the house for very long at all.

Shame on Big Brother!
Mickey is 72 years old,as mentioned before, with mental health problems, memory problems and balance problems, sue to his long career as a boxer,as we all witnessed. For him to be subjected to the same tasks as the the younger ,healthier contestants was disgusting,in particular, giving him only the worst seafood ever to eat, and subjecting him to very little food. Withholding food from a person, is deemed cruelty, especially a 72 year old man. Because of his age and health issues, he should have been giving the same privileges as Trisha. I'm not saying that Trisha didn't deserve a private room,of course she did, but Mickey should have too. His age and health and mental problems were never even considered. Big brothers treatment of Mickey is disgusting ,bordering on cruelty. His housemates tolerance of him wasn't much better. He is an old man, with mental problems,of course he is going to come out with some phrases that in this day and age are intolerable to some people,( Because anything offends anybody these days, we've turned into a bunch of lightweights.) . Mickey is old school, and he's an old school flirt,. If anyone has ever worked in a nursing home, they would know that elderly men are notorious flirts, a sad way to regain their youth, and of course he doesn't know about how to refer to certain people or what to call them in polite society now, as he hasn't been a part of society for so long,so people should be patient with him, like they are they're grandparents . In no way should Mickey be punished for being a mentally ill old man. He's a legend, treat him the way he deserves to be treated with respect.

I don't think anyone was a bully in there. Itv in general are a lot less tolerant than channel 4 and channel 5.
They've had a convicted criminal win , Helen Wood who was quite the frankly horrendous and the likes of Connor even winning money

When you were 24 would you have wanted people to refer to you as a "young boy"?
