C'mon, that's beyond pathetic. I don't care what side you're on, that's insanity.

God's sake!
Glenn.

What is it then speak clearly or speak English?
Glenn.

Sounds like a misunderstanding

Well seeing as deaf people can often have trouble speaking clearly because of their impairment, I’d imagine if someone is aggressive or abusive because of the impact of said impairment, then yes, it would be somewhat of a hate crime
Glenn.

Now we’re getting some more of the picture

Sounds like some reform thickos were trying to bully and intimidate a disabled person and didn’t like the consequences

They were accusing the partially deaf man of a hate crime for asking someone to speak clearly, though it was reported to the police as speak English which apparently is a hate crime now

You have completely misread the situation, I guess you hate the deaf guy now you know he supports Reform though

Meanwhile, your house gets robbed and the police might pop round when they're not busy dealing with much more important "crimes" like this one.
That guy who gets up at 4am 6 days a week to open his shop, in order to make ends meat and feed his family, has £50 worth of booze and meat stolen from him = Police too busy to even visit the shop, let alone investigate or get a description of the thief.
Hurty words and half the force come out. Cool.
A simple misunderstanding, and TPUK really trying to stoke the divide. Saying to someone "speak clearly" isn't obviously a hate crime and nobody is saying it is. Sounds like the mayor is either deliberately lying, or misheard what the man said.
The policeman followed up a potential crime, realised the guy didn't do anything wrong and life continued on. This is a bit of a non-story tweeted to enrage.

Sigh. Any excuse here for a bit of reform bashing.
...though it was reported to the police as speak English which apparently is a hate crime now
It would be a hate crime in this instance. The man in question was born and raised in Nigeria, the official language of which is English, spoken without a British accent of course.
If someone has turned round to him and said "speak English" simply due to his Nigerian accent then yes it would be a hate crime. It's racism, which is a crime and it's hateful.
What would you call it?

What went on after that short clip?
"The policeman followed up a potential crime"
and what was that?
Telling a Nigerian man to "speak English" when he was, which would be racist, which is a crime.
However it's irrelevant because it didn't happen. All good.
What went on after that short clip?
The man in blue at the back explained what happened again. and the police offer said he was duty bound to ask the questions due to what he was told had happened. All very civil and fine.

I wouldn't call the police over it and waste their time that is what I would call it.. I heard someone taking off an Irish accent in Aldi should I have called the police?
At at rate he was asked to speak clearly, but naturally went into victim mode

The argument wasn't whether the Mayor was right to call the police, it was whether telling a man born and raised in Nigeria to "speak English" was a hate crime and I explained why it would be considered on.
I wouldn't call the police either, if it was me, but that doesn't stop it being racist.
And how would one know if someone is Nigerian just by looking at them?
"Just by looking at them" Did you miss the bit about the man talking.
Having been born and raised in Nigerian it's highly likely he'd have a Nigerian accent as I already explained above. Aside from that, he is the mayor of the town they live in, so you'd think they would know.
However we've arguing over a hypothetical.
I did not know the mayor in question was the mayor of Wisbeach
So it was he who called the police and wasted Police time and taxpayers money because a man is deaf?
Yes. He either misheard and felt like he’d been a victim of racism or he lied (probably in a bid to get the reform stall shut down.)
If it was the former, while I wouldn’t call the police myself but it’s not up to my to say whether he was right to do so or not.
Glenn.

You’re more than welcome to post something positive they’ve done…

No need to bang their drum, their actions speak for themselves. As will the polls very shortly.
The bashing is tedious.
