Now Trump is correct
that Hollywood is dying.

But this is Crazy,
as Hollywood does co-production in the UK.
They can not afford to make it all in the USA.

Massive Film Studios in the UK
could be halted

[US President Donald Trump says he
will hit movies made in foreign countries
with 100% tariffs, as he ramps up trade disputes
with nations around the world.
Trump said he was authorising the
US Department of Commerce and
Trade Representative to start the
process to impose the levy because
America's movie industry was dying
"a very fast death".

He blamed a "concerted effort" by other
countries that offer incentives to
attract filmmakers and studios,
which he described as a
"National Security threat".

"It is, in addition to everything else,
messaging and propaganda!
" Trump said on his Truth Social platform,
external. "WE WANT MOVIES
MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!"]

Oh yes definitely

Although I love the idea of reopening Alcatraz !!

Imagine if they opened it to other countries just for the highest risk most dangerous prisoners

It's just another round of sh*t-flinging to deliberately cause market instability. It's clear as day at this point... the ONLY reason for all of this tariff nonsense is to purposefully fluctuate markets as a wealth-grab. Wrecking the world for profit, quite openly, but people will still vote for it. Absolute chaos.

Loads of Hollywood films are shot in the UK. It would hard them if they weren't able to shoot here in the future. Some arrangement will be made, I reckon.

I think what he's specifically (supposedly) aiming to stop though is exactly that; not foreign films (which will be collateral damage) but US-based movies with US-based actors being filmed outside of the US, because of incentives being offered by other countries.

He could of course have remedied this by offering similar incentives to film within the US... but no of course it's "more tariffs".

America have priced themselves out of the market in the film and film theme music business and it is primarily because all the "workers" are in unions. Very few films use american orchestras, they go to prague or london. So in this case, it won't make film makers choose to make films in the usa, they simply won't make films because it's just too expensive

Indeed and (though the MAGA sorts will find it difficult to believe) for the mostpart, actual foreign film-makers aren't primarily making their films for the American marketplace. e.g. Japanese horror and various bits of S.Korean TV and movies have been very popular in recent years stateside but ... ... the people making them are not making them for the US, they're making them for Japan and S. Korea... they'll change nothing about how they make their films... and yet American consumers will (seemingly) end up either paying more to watch them, or not be able to watch them via US-based platforms (i.e. Netflix, Prime, etc. won't host them in the US if it costs more, or they'll up their sub fees).

There still seems to be a major misunderstanding about who pays all of there tariffs, the MAGAs genuinely believe it's the "other countries" ... they don't realise it's them as consumers.

the other side of tariffs is that if american firms have a captive consumer base, they have no incentive to innovate and put money into R&D, so, america will very quickly lag behind the rest of the world and will be completely unable to export oversees. If that starts happening from now, the usa will be 3 years behind everyone else by the time trump leaves office

We have green screen now, where you can have any backdrop you could ever dream off. I doubt this is as significant as the screeching karens would have us believe.

That's not why movies film where they film. If anything it's the other way round NOW (they film on non-US city streets and then edit in a US-city backdrop, shop fronts, etc).

Movie-makers don't film in the US because it's too expensive. What was said above is correct: this won't force them to film in the US, it'll just mean they don't make the film at all.

You can do all that from a warehouse.

Yes but if you do it in a warehouse in the US, it'll be expensive. It's not that complicated. US film-makers are making their films outside of the US because it's too expensive to make them in the US... not because of the location, but simply because the cost of doing it (on a street, in a warehouse or anywhere else) is higher. Trump wants to make it just-as-expensive (or more expensive) to make them elsewhere...

...but like I said if it simply makes it not profitable to make films, the films won't get made, in the US or anywhere else. The big studios will keep making them but they'll only make "safe" films that they're confident will make big box office returns. Smaller companies and independent studios either won't make film, or will concentrate on non-US markets.

The majority of studios in the UK are just big warehouses. The issue comes from the hundreds/thousands of people that are employed in set design, costumes etc. The area i am very familiar with is orchestral recording and that costs a lot of money done in europe, and its 10 times the price if its done in the USA

this

Trump will help America into another recession if he keeps acting moronic like this

Hollywood contributes a lot for America's economy honestly, and certain films you need to film outside America, otherwise you only have green screens and certain actors are against that, like Jason Statham for example
