I'm of the opinion that if people leave a party they should be independent. If they join a new party there should be a by election.

Agreed.

There's an argument to be made that they were elected as "an individual, not party" so they should be allowed to go indie if they want ... but effectively foisting another party onto the people without the vote isn't really on.

it's happened loads of times in the past. Remember all the tories that jumped ship a few years ago and joined other parties and at the next election every single one of them lost their seat :laugh:

Going way further back, the labour party fractured and they created the social democratic party spin off
