Great casting.

I don’t see how it will work if they take years to film it. They will all be too tall, voice broken etc. They look fine though I just hope it doesn’t take them two years each time for a series

J.K. Rowling has stated that Hermione can be any race, including Black, and she has endorsed the casting of a Black actress in the play, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child"

Are you suggesting JK Rowling made racial exclusive characters??!

Wow

Wow

I copied that off the web. JK said she didn’t give her a colour in the book so it’s up to the reader to say if she’s black or white. So not really woke

Harry and Ron are bang on imo.

I'm not too sure about Hermione due to JK Rowling not really being really sure what her own character is even meant to look like.:joker:

32,000 children auditioned for the three roles

I think the first two series are being filmed back to back.

I don't know why people are so upset about it, her race is irrelevant to the story and by all accounts is never mentioned in the books. Also its not unusual for book characters to look a bit different to how they're described in the books. The worst one I can think of is when Tom Cruise was cast to play Jack Reacher, who was described in the book as a "man mountain" [emoji23]

I think that some people are on high alert because there has been a lot of race swapping in Media over recent years.

Tbh I'm amazed that Ron is still going to be Ginger.:joker:

Yeah I don't think that the Hermione one is that big of a deal tbh.

I do think that Snape is an odd race swap though imo.

I saw a comment that said their names sound more wizardly than their characters :joker:

Apparently Arabella Stanton was Matilda in the West End/on tour, and she's a Hermionesque character ... raised by a Dursleyese family!

Snape to me needs to be an older white man with dark hair, that's how he just is to me.

Probably like you've said, it's probably showing how iconic Alan Rickman was as Snape.

Well some people have said James Potter will look "racist" for bullying Snape in the flashbacks ... as if all four of the Marauders will be white.

Looks good. Iirc the only physical description of Hermione was she had dark bushy hair..bren a while since I read them tho

Snape os the only character who's skin colour is actually mentioned. All the others could be green for all is mentioned in the book.

I haven't read the books, still don't imagine it's a huge deal though, was it very relevant to the storyline?

Not really relevant, he is the only one who is described as having pale white pasty skin and dark hair. As you said Alan Rickman was so iconic as Snape because he looked exactly the way he was described in the books.

It doesn't really make any difference to the story though and I actually think it's good if they look nothing like the original cast as they can make the roles their own

Snape being black is problemnatic for the storyline IMO - Snape's storyline revolved heavily around his unrequited love for Harry's mum and being marginalised/oppressed by the James Potter group. The optics of that are EXTREMELY skewed if it's four young white lads attacking a black classmate because he fancies a white girl. It is honestly a bit of a mess. There's no way to avoid the racist overtones when, obviously, "The Half Blood Prince" was not written as a story about race. I think it's going to be extremely tricky for them to get this right. Pretty much any other character could have been race-swapped without issues, Snape is the ONLY one where it becomes an issue.

At one point they chase him down and magically hang him upside down in the air to humiliate him. I mean obviously they don't have to include that specifically as a scenebut yeah... TERRIBLE optics if the James Potter gang are all white and Snape is black :umm2:.

Exactly but the optics of having four white characters ganging up and harassing a black character for being "bookish and nerdy" is going to be an issue unless handled very, very carefully. Not for a decade or more to be fair... it doesn't really come into it until book 6-of-7.

Casting hasn’t been confirmed for the four of them yet.

I’m imagining a black actor will play the role of Remus Lupin or Wormtail.

People are too hung up on this because a black man is playing a character that was previously played by a white man.

It’s a reimagining of a movies series, (that people can still watch and enjoy) changes are going to be made. Christ I’ve even seen people moaning about the set for Privet Drive.

The chances of all four Marauders being white are pretty slim, tbh.

It will be interesting when Draco calls Hermione a "Mudblood", and when everyone makes fun of her for protesting the slavery of House Elves!

I already made that point and got an infraction for being racist

in a fictional supernatural kids story...

When I saw Cursed child on the west end Hagrid was black and no one cared, so I don’t see why people are complaining Snape is black. I mean Alan Rickman won’t be beaten but come on now

That's awful, poor kid.

It was such an iconic series of films with some really good actors so it will just take people a bit to get used to them. It's funny, for me the 3 "main characters" Harry, Ron & Hermione are the least important changes, definitely Snape, Hagrid, Prof McGonagall will be the hardest to see played by different actors, oh and Bellatrix

It never hurt james bond to change the main characters. It never affected the mousetrap when it played for decades with different actors. I'm sure there are loads more examples. Every shakespeare play, charles dickens etc etc etc etc
