It is possible to just be mono-neurodiverse. Not everyone’s pan-neurodiverse or a walking caricature of the neurodevelopmental chapter of the DSM.

Did you not get a second opinion?

If not, why not?

Anyone diagnosed me with that. I'd tell them to F off, the cheeky b'stards

Because not everyone’s in denial about their neurotype. Yes, it’s super-over-diagnosed these days but Denver might not fall into that category. It sounds like he had reason to want this diagnosis.

….ahhh, you must feel such a sense of relief to finally get that diagnosis, as you say Denver…not only to explain any difficulties and struggles you may have had previously…?…but you’ll finally be able to look at how it’ll be managed also…I’m so pleased for you that you have the answers that you must have been struggling to get for many years……

It must feel good to know why you are the way you are, I always wonder about myself. It's hard to get a diagnosis, well done.

I have that too. How does yours work? I often need 3 screens going at once to get any kind of stimulation.

OMG

During the covid lockdown I occasionally worked from home with two PCs , Ipad and a mobile screen all going at the same time as I listened to TalkSport !

Even now I will have the radio on TalkSport whilst downloading music on one PC and watching YouTube clips on the second pc

Also I cannot relax … I have to be doing something or over thinking something else

I always feel tense as well .. not that I mind so much - maybe I’m just used to being this way

…get the help, yes…but also, a huge help that diagnosis will give you is you…because you’ll be able to understand so much more how your processing works…?…and that Denver is going to be like a light turning on…like the drawing back of curtains to see daylight, you know……still a long journey but now one that’s going to feel a lot clearer…and you’re no stranger to journeys because here you are, you got that diagnosis and sadly, many don’t….but you did…well done you ……

People don’t realise how hard it is to get diagnosed once you’re an adult

You still have to deal with the trauma of growing up knowing that ‘something’ was wrong with you and nobody understanding that and then they make you feel stupid about it

Good job getting it looked into. A lot of people never find the courage to do so and you should be proud of yourself for making that jump

My best mate and his brother both got diagnosed with being hyperactive. Which is what they called ADHD in the early nineties.

None of them took any drugs for it. Both are now married with kids and both doing well in life. Now into their late 40s.

Load of old sh!t.

Ah yes, the classic “my mates turned out fine so everyone else must be faking it” logic. Next you’ll be solving cancer with a cup of tea and telling people depression’s just being a bit sad. Just say you’ve got no clue what you’re talking about and enjoy shouting at clouds.

I'm just giving my opinion from my experiences in life. And I'll live my life the way I want to live it, and say what I want to say.

And no one’s stopping you from having an opinion, just pointing out that basing medical takes on “my mate turned out alright” makes you sound thick. If you’re happy living in your own little bubble, crack on. Just don’t expect everyone else to take it seriously.

Ideally, a bubble where facts matter and people don’t confuse their narrow life experience with universal truth. But let’s be real, you’ve clearly settled into that comfy little echo chamber where science is fake and experts are scary. So yeah, stay in your bubble. It’s the only place your opinions actually sound clever.

Anyone with a brain, credentials, and a basic grip on reality. If you’re desperate for a name, start with “not you”.

I’m more wary than the average person of this over-diagnosis of/over-aubscribing to neurodivergence (more accurately called neurodelevopmental divergence, IMO) but Alf’s made it abundantly clear that he knows absolutely nothing about mental health and its historical continuity. Better to just ignore him. On topics like this anyway.

If your life’s so empty that your idea of a “challenge” is arguing online until bedtime, then honestly, I’m not surprised your takes are stuck in the ‘90s too. Set your alarm champ, wouldn’t want you being late to whatever dead-end job gives you just enough confidence to pretend you know what you’re talking about online.

Wait, weren’t you trying to “beat me tonight”?
You bailed on the argument and went straight for weak sarcasm. Bit of a weird flex.

If that’s your idea of a challenge, no wonder you’re losing before sunrise.

Let’s leave Denver’s thread alone now, unless you have some of your expertise to share?

****n hell, Adam. That sounds brutal man.

I hope it don't change you to much. I would bet my life on your inner friend circle saying the same.

It's not great "being normal"(i don't mean that in a ***** way, it's just how I say things) life really sucks for a lot of people.

Hopefully if you ever have to come of those pills, the come down doesn't replicate the speed side of things..

On the contrary, at least I can take a joke that hinges on the slightest bit of social subtext and not have to question it in perplexity for 21 consecutive posts. I’d say my sense of humour is more foundationally in-tact. You run on seriously weird ground from the get-go. And I say that as someone who’s known for actually being very accommodating to and understanding of differing personalities and quirks. I draw the line at your kind of weird and inappropriate.

I’d claim otherwise, yeah. And on better grounds. I think I know myself a lot better than you know me, no offence. You’re clueless as-to who I am.

If you want to extend me an olive-branch, now is the type to take at-least a vain shred of accountability for what you say and acknowledge the unspoken boundaries that shouldn’t keep getting over-stepped with people you don’t know at all or have the innate wiring to understand. Mkay?

We’re supposed to tip-toe around you because you’re supposedly just a misunderstood, hapless autistic who means no intentional harm but over-steps boundaries anyway and comes out with the most racist, xenophobic BS. You give people zero reason to like you. You’re childish, immature and clumsily bigoted. You can’t hide it with lame jokes or comments that are supposed to hurt where you think it’ll hurt them but are actually laughable. You ain’t got that snap. You ain’t got the wiring, the equipment. You wouldn’t know funny if a clown came up to you and shoved you head-first into a birthday-cake. And I imagine most people you come across think this about you, if I may stretch a little without necessarily knowing you. I could be wrong but I’ve said it now anyway. It’s not so much about your diagnosis as it is the way you use it, manipulating it to evade accountability, a vein shred of integration and basic decency. You’re a naughty boy.
