It appears randomly but constantly..

The email address in question is sending and receiving emails perfectly well ..

A pop-up prompting for IMAP or POP settings when setting up a BT (btinternet.com or btopenworld.com) email account in Outlook or another email client is normal. These settings specify how your email client connects to the BT email servers to send and receive messages. You should configure your email client with the correct IMAP settings for BT, which includes the server address mail.btinternet.com, port 993, and SSL encryption, along with your full email address and password

Not as yet .,

I am reluctant to mess with my settings as the email address in question is sending and receiving emails perfectly

I haven’t changed settings at all apart from changing our BT ID password last week

if you go into the mail account settings, it will probably say re-enter your password there. The fact that you can still send and receive email is not necessarily the full story
