Now other than the Deadpool movies which I simply adore I will admit to being completely disenchanted by superhero films in general.

One particular gripe is that every so often they seem to revamp a franchise and go back to the beginning of the story with a new actor playing the part … it’s happening now with yet another Superman and another lot of Fantastic Fours !!

Just wondering why they continue to do this ?

Venom. Tom Hardy's in them, what's not to love?

I like Deadpool too, and I enjoyed Brightburn, although it was a little dark.

They can't seem to get the Fantastic Four right.

Love Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, Venom, those are my favourites but I've watched most of them and enjoyed most of them. I really liked Shazam! actually as well

Hmmm... Is Guardians of the Galaxy the one with Groot? I didn't mind that.

If I see it pop up on Prime or Netflix I'll let you know. You know how these things roll around...

I liked that Brightburn was basically if Superman went evil. It had a great concept but sadly it didn’t make a lot at the box office. Still hoping we get a sequel

he has a dog, yes, and no it doesn't have a cape or doesn't fly, but it has superstrength, superspeed

didn't you know this then?

was also in the series Smallville, as well as in the series for The CW Superman & Lois

his name is Krypto

and btw
it seems the Jonathan Kent has a bigger role here even when Clark/Superman is a adult, more similar-ish like Eddie Jones's version of the character in the Adventures of Lois & Clark series, so Kevin Costner still holds that record of only 5 seconds as Jonathan in Man of Steel :fan: truly embarrassing of Costner how lacklustre he played that role

So his dog has super powers .. Superman having a dog is just about acceptable but anything more is just ridiculous and unnecessary imho

Just another example of film makers ruining a perfectly good idea … like 50’ high rock monsters helping Russell Crowe build the ark ( Noah) and giant baboons and sharks in the colosseum ( Gladiator 2)

I thunk you and I are the only ones who liked Brightburn. I enjoy a little darkness sometimes.

Well mercifully, though it did provide a very contentious twist on the morality of his Kryptonian birth parents that obviously ties in to his origins, at least the entire first half of Superman 2025 wasn't committed to an elaborate retelling of the whole origin story all over again. The Batman did much the same, i.e., foregoing a retelling of the origin story but providing a contentious twist as to the morality of Bruce Wayne's parents.

I broadly liked Superman 2025, but I think that for a lot of people, it sharply brought into focus a lot of James Gunn's limitations as a creative force. He can't seem to construct any type of a story that doesn't somehow revolve around a ragtag bunch of misfits who snark at one another while uniting against a common enemy. That's his shtick and he can't seem to get away from it.

He can't seem to go five minutes without levity. I think he did a good job of creating a foundation for this new Superman world, but he needs to take a step back from the creative side of things if he wants the actors to fully realise the potential in their roles. Because I don't think they can flourish as much with him in the director's chair.
