Parts of the Northeast have always wanted to go full CA/West Coast-style politics, so it was only a matter of time.

I say let places like CA and NY experiment with this. The underclass could move to more affordable areas and create more stable micro-economies elsewhere, but they choose instead to listen to propaganda and scaremongering about the rest of the country. Meanwhile, they remain in areas with the highest income disparities and crime rates in the country. Moving would fix most people's issues. This is a blessing they have available to them that isn't possible in other parts of the world. We moved because I told hub I'm not paying half a million dollars for a basic home. This was early 2010s.

Handouts keep people dependent and make them less financially mobile in the longrun which then ironically fuels the cycle of generational poverty that is said to be so rampant in certain populations :shrug:. Imo, it's an attempt to keep a certain voting demographic from fleeing and doing better for themselves elsewhere. It's as simple as that.

Middle class/Business class folk have more sense and will either move to an outlying area where their income goes further or even better, move jobs to another state. They have more financial mobility, yes, but the blessing of having nothing is you're not tied to property or other liabilities.

If places like NYC want to continue to build up their income disparity, then I say let them. Maybe they can attract the entitled folk living in other states there such as how places like Portland, Seattle, Oakland, parts of CA have attracted homelessness from other areas of the country because of the easier access to drugs and entitlements. So the rest of the country doesn't have to worry with dealing with that complex, we can actually properly reform our laws and economies for the modern economy... this is where having multiple states/municipalities that do their own thing is ultimately a positive.

I can only speak of the area where I was born but it's a similar picture all over the London. Most of the white indigenous east Londoners have gone now, their areas taken over by foreigners. My old borough ceased to be a white majority in the early 90s. Before that all the different races and nationalities rubbed along quite well. Then the poor Pakistanis and Bangladeshis arrived. Now Newham is around 25% White, probably less now, and over 50% Muslim. Having a Muslim mayor was the final nail in the coffin. White people are a minority all over London. And aside from all that, Khan has repeatedly shielded and protected the monstrous Pakistani rape gangs who rape, drug, pass-round and traffick white underage girls in the most appalling ways. Khan won't even address it.

This is really really bad for their school system. These programs help teachers to filter out and separate the kids who want to learn from the ones who just waste people's time and tear up the classroom. Teachers can't do anything extended with the students because they spend the entire time putting out fires. Can't leave out supplies as they'll get ruined or stolen, so that means every assignment has to be very minimal as possible as there's no trust. It's a major downgrade for those students and now they'll be lumped in with the kids that are poorly parented. These programs are a major safe haven from bullying.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani conceded Wednesday that the Big Apple does, in fact, need homeless encampment sweeps — but vowed that his administration will have "better outcomes."

Mayor Zohran Mamdani signaled on Wednesday that another one of his key campaign promises could fall by the wayside — as he continues to threaten tax increases to stand up his massive $127 billion budget.

When pressed on his slate of new Rent Guidelines Board, Mamdani told reporters that the board was simply "independent."

“They will consider all of the evidence we are working to lower costs for property owners across the city," he told reporters at an unrelated press conference in Harlem.

He added that they will “come to an appropriate decision."

The comments are a massive tonal shift from the far-lefty lawmaker who led repeated chants of "Freeze the Rent" on the campaign trail and brushed off criticism about how the mayor can only appoint members to the board, not direct action.
