[THREE huge hotels near one of Britain’s
favourite beaches are being used as
accommodation for asylum seekers during
the peak summer season.

Holidaymakers in Bournemouth say they
are fed-up at forking out thousands of pounds while
illegal migrants are put up for free
200 metres from the seafront.]

[The hotels — all within walking distance
of Bournemouth’s seafront — have been closed
to the paying public for more than a year.

Home Office officials have taken over the
79-room Chine Hotel,
the 102-room Roundhouse Hotel and
123-room Britannia Hotel.

Around one million visitors book hotel
stays in Bournemouth every year and there
are fears the arrival of any more migrants
in the Dorset town could severely damage
its £1.3billion tourism industry.]

And this week there was anger among
paying holidaymakers.]

Duh!

There is consistent evidence linking lower cognitive ability with higher racial prejudice.
• Hodson & Busseri (2012, Psychological Science)
• Used two large UK data sets tracking people from childhood.
• Found lower childhood intelligence predicted more racist attitudes in adulthood.
• This was partly because lower cognitive ability was associated with higher right-wing authoritarianism and social dominance orientation.
• In short, less complex thinking → preference for simple, hierarchical worldviews → greater prejudice.
• Deary et al. (2008, Intelligence)
• Studied over 15,000 people in the UK.
• Found lower IQ at age 10 was linked to more anti-immigrant and racist views at age 30.
• Education reduced the effect but did not remove it.
• Pettigrew (2016, Journal of Social Issues)
• Meta-analysis confirmed that less cognitive flexibility and lower analytical thinking skills correlate with higher prejudice across racial, ethnic, and religious groups.

The main finding across decades is that prejudice often thrives in people who struggle with complex, abstract reasoning or ambiguity.
It’s not an intelligence test in the everyday sense, but a tendency toward rigid, simplistic thinking.

There is American research too, but the most famous and detailed studies linking childhood intelligence to racism are UK-based.

In the US, similar patterns have been found, though often using different measures:
• McCourt et al. (1999, Personality and Individual Differences)
• Large US twin study. Lower cognitive ability was linked to higher ethnocentrism and conservative attitudes.
• Sidanius & Pratto (1999, Social Dominance Theory)
• Across multiple US samples, people with lower cognitive complexity scored higher on racial prejudice and social dominance orientation.
• Heaven et al. (2011)
• US and Australian samples found that lower abstract reasoning correlated with higher right-wing authoritarianism, which in turn predicted racial prejudice.

The difference is that in the UK studies, they had huge nationally representative cohorts tracked from childhood to adulthood, so the link is much cleaner. In the US, the data is often cross-sectional, so it shows correlation but not a clear developmental timeline.

116 charges have been brought against 51 asylum seekers living across three hotels near
Bournemouth seafront.

None of these men who come into our country should ever be free to walk the streets.

Nigel has a brief say on this subject here: https://x.com/reformparty_uk/status/1953825913981829396
