View Full Version : Do you still own a cassette player?

A lot of artists release on cassette now so got me wondering if you still have one?
No, but I did consider getting one on the side to make mixtapes... there's something about the warm sound of cassettes that really does help "fix" some tracks that didn't transition as well to digital...
I still burn CDs. When burners were brand new, I got one pretty much right away for my rig. I used to print labels for them and personalize them with different tracks. I started doing that again and I've sent them off as personalized gifts with artwork. I never considered making labels for the cassettes, but I could now...
I regularly consider buying a turntable …

Funnily enough, not only do i have several I left some bids of a collection of 80s radio casseitte players tonight - some classics from Sony and Sanyo. They are making good money now.

Do you not fancy a turntable and vinyl ?
Vinyl albums are probably cheaper than new CDs

I don’t own a cassette player however my car is a 2002 and it has a cassette player hidden behind the stereo screen and I have a 6 CD changer in the boot. Plus I have an aux connection so I have most music formats which is cool because I can pick and choose between them.
Surprisingly when I play cassettes the sound is really good and I found a small stash of them in the boot when I bought the car. I messaged the previous owner and he let me keep them as he had loads and was going to be chucking them away.

Oh these are brilliant, I remember my mum and dad had one years ago and I always remember my dad regretting that he got rid of it. They’re worth a bit of money nowadays I think?
pretty sure i have several hiding in the garage somewhere

I do think it’s cool that a lot of these older formats are making a bit of a comeback. I was in HMV a few weeks ago and it was so cool to see that they had a lot of vinyls for sale. I was flicking through them for ages lol.

Yeah
There’s a guy selling vinyl singles and albums on our town centre… he bought next door to expand and it’s always so busy .. gar busier than the HMV store nearby

Ooh Technics was a great stack.
Technics was certainly at the higher end of consumer hifi back in the day. It's parent company was Panasonic

There’s still a couple of independent record shops in Greenwich (London) that tend to be fairly busy too. Been there a couple times and it’s pretty good.

I had a stereo like that that had a 5 CD changer in it but it also had 2 casette decks. I gifted it to someone for their man cave.

Pretty sure we had one of these or one very close to it at a young age. I needed to KNOW what every button and function did. It was like a puzzle that needed figuring out. It's how my family learned, some to their own dismay, that I was very techy person. Most of what I learned about computers particularly I learned from breaking stuff on purpose so I could fix it again and make it run even better than before while also saving storage space...

It's definitely up for consideration.
It depends on if the Albums that I'd want to buy have Vinyl copies as well.
There is something so comforting and nice about music being consumed in 'old fashioned' formats. I don't have a cassette player or CD player for that matter, but I do have a record deck in my dining room, and an ever growing vinyl collection that I use every evening while we eat dinner. I don't think I'd ever use a cassette player quite honestly but I love the idea of people listening to current music on one.

I have seen a few YouTube clips of songs with scratches for the old timers out there
I quite liked them tbh

I have what was apparently once called a "music centre" - it plays records, CDs, and tapes. But I only own the first two.

…I’m coming to your place for dinner……the sign of a great dinner party as well is when a stylus sticks on a record being played ….but no one notices because the chat is so great and engrossing…

It would not have occurred to sellotape it though as it wouldn’t sound perfect .. perfection is everything of course [emoji3]

When it got twisted up I usually gave it up and let my cat play with it  That was so fun. We didn't have things like cellotape sitting around... my family only knew masking tape and Scotch tape.
