Been in two minds whether to post about this topic but does anyone on here use the likes of Tinder, etc?, I personally have had to come off them as they have done nothing but ruin my self esteem, Never getting any matches, at the same time the lack of a love life is having a very bad effect on my Mental Health, But I've no other way of meeting someone at the moment because of being Isolated

I’ve never used them
I’m sorry you are feeling low but sometimes a relationship is simply another headache

I know my sons friend used Tinder but hated it, he moved to Hinge instead which is less of a hook up site and more looking for a relationship and he's been seeing a girl he met on there for the last 6 months

Online dating is a long, arduous game if you’re actually looking for a relationship, not just sex. It can work, but it takes most people ages to find a relationship via them.

Have you considered/tried speed dating/singles nights? You meet a lot more people face to face that way.

Also, don’t stress yourself on not having a love life. It’ll happen when it’s meant to. Try enjoy your time and focus on it less. Maybe join some social clubs of things that interest you instead, that will help conquer any loneliness you at feel at times and will help your mental health.

Thank you for those suggestions guys, Yes absolutely I think taking small steps socially meeting new people would be very beneficial, even if it doesn't involve dating it would certainly help the mental health side of things

I definately think you should concentrate on joining some clubs just one to start with see what suits you, is there a local hall that does some combat, boot camp or HiTT classes, or as Niamh said walking or hiking, forget about relationships at the moment and concentrate on getting out and meeting people

Don't rule out Dogging. Fresh air, good community, exercise and a sense of freedom you don't get at say badminton

I know quite a few people that have used Hinge and some of them are still seeing or in a relationship with the people they have met on there. If they’re having a bad effect on your mental health I would defo suggest (like others have mentioned) about social clubs or some kind of activity just to get out and meet people. It’s so much better to meet people that way because it just happens more organically and it’s an easier way to socialise with people.

Edit: You could always chance it and apply for Love Island Kev?

Hinge is ideal if you swing both ways

…ahhhh Kev, I know that it’s probably not what you want to hear atm but I agree with what many have said in that you say that your self esteem is low atm with Tinder experiences contributing much to that….?…and those experiences impacting your mental well-being in a very negative way…?…and that’s kind of not the time to be pursuing a relationship but definitely the time to be focusing on you and raising yourself up…?…work on you first and then working on anything romantic will be so much easier, yeah…?…also, in looking at joining groups/clubs etc, you’re choosing things that appeal to you and interest you so by that in itself, you’re going to be meeting people with similar interests …roads can lead, you know…?…it’s often that we can find meaningful people in our lives even when that’s not the direct road/course we were taking…you mentioned travelling one time, is that still a possible for you or not so much atm…?…

…I know that’s not what you want to hear but you and your self-esteem and mental well-being first ……always the first step…

It works for some and not others. Like my sister met her husband online.

I almost got scammed once. He spent 3 weeks pretending he lived in France and that he couldn't wait to meet me. He was sending me pics of some gorgeous guy. He supposedly also had a cabin in Switzerland that he couldn't wait to take me to. He said he was divorced and had a child. Then suddenly he sent me pics of a child in hospital claiming he was low on funds to get her surgery. He didn't directly ask for financial support but eluded to it while being charming. Y'all I was almost going to do it, I was almost going to send him money until one day he made a boo-boo. He sent me a screen cap of his Home Screen for some reason, can't remember why anymore. The screen said IVORY Coast and something else that made me realise this dude was lying the whole time. I blocked him. I was so stupid lol.

Anyway haven't really gone back since but if you do ask for a video call somehow

I hear you. Have you tried going to places where people do hobbies you like? Likely to meet many like minded people there obviously and maybe spark convos with someone interesting

Yeah Hinge seems decent. 2 friends of mine met their partners there. Both married now

…but yeah, touching on what you said, CeeCee…one of my bosses found love/her husband on a dating site…I think that it was a local dating site, actually…mind you, I know someone else who didn’t find love on a dating site…the potential date asked, would she like to go to a friend’s wedding for the date…she said, oh ok, I’ll dust off a wedding outfit from my wardrobe…he said, could you please wear a dog collar and lead and I’ll be your master…oh…

I dont think dating apps and positive mental health are happy bedfellows

Personally I do agree with this.

I understand that the dating scene is all about dating apps nowadays, but it's not for me because not only is everyone judging each other from a superficial perspective, but there are people catfishing on those sites as well.

I would constantly feel paranoid.
