arranging...
These people are awaiting deportation.... some with criminal pasts
Mitie had been seeking staff including a tutor to lead cake decorating, floristry and balloon modelling workshops.
t says activities help manage the "stresses of detention".
Home Office minister Seema Malhotra has instructed Mitie to remove the jobs - some of which had annual salaries of nearly £39,000.
Malhotra said: "We do not believe all these roles are necessary and have told the Home Office to speak to Mitie to remove them."

What's the point in teaching those things?
Maybe they need teaching about consent, and the age thereof.

Maybe they could just pass the time reading and watching movies just like anyone else

My advice is never pick a side nowadays.
Both sides have gone absolutely deranged, and they don't even realise it.:umm2:
Labour need Starmer to step down.

I’d love the cake decorating one. Though I don’t really get why they axed them

They were axed because the people in the centre are in a queue to be deported, i.e they have had their asylum claims assessed and been denied, so while they are waiting they are entertained by a cake decorater

Agreed, they have tax payers money at their disposal and they fritter it away like coffetti, meanwhile if you are a pensioner or disabled you are targetted as getting something for nothing ...crazy times

Such is the backwards morality of the PM.

Ah I get it now. Yeah seems like a waste to do that if they are getting deported. Just watch the tv, big brother starts soon too lol

Politics really isn't the root cause for most things as that would imply it's also the main solution. Ultimately, it's the underlying culture. If more individuals are more interested in playing mental games with their words and thoughts and that principles don't take the forefront, this is pretty much all we're going to get out of any political system... we set the expectations. So in theory, Labour/Tory/Democrats/Republicans, etc could all be proper functioning parties if forced to be...
Enough people have to pick a direction to construct a stable consensus. We tend to call that "picking sides" but how fair is it, really? Ironically that logic enables the gridlock between the parties... It's much better than waiting around for the balloonologists amongst us to decide what meta peace looks like so we can "just follow that"... we've tried all that, "listening to the experts" and it's not working out very well, imo. We have to be our own expert...
Party politics will always take advantage of divisions to stay in power. If we can't on average disagree on certain things faithfully, then there's no way to really push the political forces to work together. Otherwise one figures out very quickly that if one side just screams a little bit louder than the other to drown it out, then all talks of opposition is fruitless. It's not helped by media manipulation that only glorifies one end of the spectrum, but I really don't think it's the primary obstacle...
I've talked with people who have done alternative therapy programs with inmates and I'm a bit torn on some of what is listed in the OP. I know some women turn to cake decorating and crafts to make a side income in the free world and that can help supplement a living.
That said, to put it in the same box as being like personal therapy is comical... the only people getting therapy from it at that level are the folk being paid a decent income to make that a stable living. They wouldn't easily get that kind of opportunity out in the private market.
