In the Papers
One name in Emily Thornbery MP?

The Labour Mayor of Manchester suggested
Louise Haigh MP is one of his picks

Alison McGovern MP another name mentioned

It would be good if Joey picked an MP
he thinks could help?

Also, any other poster that can pick
An MP in the Labour Party for this job.

Emily Thornbury was in the shadow cabinet but didn't get a government job when they were elected. She'd be a thorn(bury) in the side of Two Tier Kier, I reckon. The best of a mediocre bunch.

One would normally say it should be the best person for the job, but it's an elected position so that just doesn't apply. The last female elected leader of the tory party did a wonderful job

We were given a huge gift by the British public of a huge majority. But now we are on 20% in the polls.

We have to stop making mistakes and start listening.

A right stitch up

I'm no longer a Labour Party member arista.
I'm unlikely to return too if they carry on with the increasing the points level for PIP as to welfare.

So I won't have a vote in this Deputy leadership ballot.
However I agree that it's preferable it's a female.
The media would have a great time claiming Labour were anti women if it wasn't.

If I had a vote though, then I'd probably be casting it for Emily or Bridget.

I don't see it as a stitch up at all however.
Because I'm not sure who the Unions would support or if they'd all get the 80 MPs backing needed too.

No men have as yet put themselves forward.

It is a Stitch Up in the sense Bridget

It's not a stitch up just because a supporter of the leader stands.
That's nonsense.

Oh dont apologise, you still thought I was a member.
It gave me no pleasure to step back.
I've been a member for 12 years but I can't support severe changes to disability benefits and support.
That's what turned me against the LibDems when they supported the heartless Conservative changes to DLA and the testing of claimants.

I wanted this government to do a reasonable job, it may yet be that they do in years to come to 2029.
However they'd have to protect the vulnerable, sick and disabled for me to return.

Bridget actually is more formidable than opponents think she is, she could turn out to be a good choice in my view.
IF, she were to win which I wouldn't think a certainty.

I think she's doing okay overall in education.
However I'm not married and have no children so not affected by education issues.
However my family who have children in schooling, have no real moans about her efforts so far.

The last lot were a mess on education, in fact I've always wished education was out of party politics, that an agreed consensus on education policy should be in place so there's no messing about with it when governments change as to Parties.
It is all about the future of children after all

:joker: I doubt she's loved now Ammi and doubt she'd be as Deputy Labour Leader either :joker:

Politics always has been divisive but it's now just sinking more and more into being extremely toxic
It's more now sadly about hate preaching and scapegoating than tolerance and any concensus aims.

I've in my time in the Labour Party come across Bridget and I think she'd be able to rise to the challenges and possibly impress a little too.
So I'd wish her good luck were she to win.

Emily Thornberry and Paula Barker have both withdrawn from the Labour deputy leadership contest, leaving three candidates left in the race to replace Angela Rayner.

In order to progress to the next stage in the contest, MPs need to get the backing of 80 MPs by Thursday afternoon - a bar Thornberry and Barker looked unlikely to clear.

It is also doubtful that backbench MP Bell Riberio-Addy will garner enough support before the 5pm deadline.
