Union flags are flying at the Labour Party Conference. ���� It comes as Keir Starmer gives his speech, declaring Labour will fight next year's elections as "patriots of our great nations" with an argument of "bringing our country together as a whole".

Mr Starmer said: "I'm not just proud of the Union Jack and the cross of St George, I'm also proud of the Saltire, proud of the Red Dragon, proud of our union - this astonishing relationship between four great nations.

"Four different nations, yes, but four nations that time and again have been through the fire, together, built so much, together. A country forged by the solidarity of working people.

"So, let's fly all our flags, conference, because they are our flags. They belong to all of us and we will never surrender them. And let's unite our country behind them, because this is no time for dividers.

Hmm. Having just watched this now as to Starmer's speech.
Probably the best performance from Starmer.

Some things I liked a lot, other things not so.

None of the speakers were wrong about Farage and Reform however.
Although I'd prefer ALL other Parties, not just Labour, to just denounce certainly the more sort of hate preaching rhetoric of Farage's Reform mob against those of other Countries or cultures.
Then set out to more just ignore Reform, not give any of them the time of day as to really responding.

Keir Starmer claims Nigel Farage is to blame for the boat people because Brexit took us out of the Dublin Convention (in 2020), which allowed us to return asylum seekers to the EU countries from whence they came.
The PM is either ignorant of the facts — or knowingly lying. Neither is a good look.
The Dublin Convention was a two-way street for asylum seekers. Yes, we could try to return them. But others could also be returned to us.
As a result the Dublin Agreement actually made us a net recipient of asylum seekers.
Take 2018. We made 5,500 requests for asylum seekers to be returned. Only 209 transfers were agreed. In the same year, under the same convention we accepted 1,215 asylum seekers. So we were net recipients by over 1,000. The Dublin Convention did nothing to make it easier to return asylum seekers.
Nearly all politicians are cavalier with the truth when it suits them. But Starmer is taking this to a new level.
