View Full Version : The Church of England are a Disgrace

The Church of England decided this week to cover the interior of the oldest cathedral in England in graffiti in order to represent the voices of “marginalised
communities.”

JD Vance took to X to slam the horrible decision

The Very Rev David Monteith, Dean of Canterbury, said: “There is a rawness
which is magnified by the graffiti style, which is disruptive. It is unfiltered and
not sanitised.”

“This exhibition intentionally builds bridges between cultures, styles and genres
and allows us to receive the gifts of younger people who have much to say.”

It’s actually stunning how much the elite of Britain hate their own culture and
civilisation.

The installation was made by the poet Alex Vellis who is a "they/them"

here he is:

The desecration of Canterbury Cathedral by the Church of England is modern
Britain in one image.

Our most sacred ground, once the beating heart of English faith, now treated
as a playground for cultural decay.

Shame on Sarah Mullally for defiling what generations held holy.

Strange decision..graffiti-ing the insides of cathedrals..

The Church daring to show inclusivity is apparently the real threat to civilisation. Not centuries of covering up abuse, or preaching intolerance toward gay people, but a few bits of graffiti. If equality and representation offend you more than hypocrisy and hate, maybe the problem isn’t the paint on the walls.

I didn't mean that, just it's a weird thing to do to show inclusion. It's great that they are finally welcoming minorities but defacing the insides of cathedrals is just strange

I wasn’t actually replying to you

I just couldn’t be bothered to quote the op.

I agree.

Not the way I would try and get younger people in the doors though. Not that many young people would be interested in going to church.

Ridiculous idea. Alienate your supporters to include some people who couldn't give a toss about the Church of England. They've defaced one of the most beautiful buildings in the country with ugly stickers, and for what?

If it were some tasteful art it might be okay but graffitti? what are they saying here exactly?

I cannot imagine any other religious group in the country presenting this nonsense. No temples, no synagogues, no mosques, no Roman Catholic churches... It's always the Church of England who leap on this kind of desperate attempt to be relevant.

well done!

The Church of Nigeria has left the Church of England.

The decision to leave comes after the Church of England named pro-abortion
Bishop Sarah Mullally as the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Church of Nigeria calls it a sign of "a troubling moral decline."

It looks like someone broke in and defaced the place ....sorry...it is not in keeping ...they could have set aside an area for art which represented whoever they are trying to entice into the Church but no...

• Sexual abuse cover-ups – Multiple investigations, including the 2020 Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA), found that senior clergy repeatedly ignored or hid abuse by priests. Thousands of victims were failed, and some bishops protected abusers instead of children.

• Peter Ball case – Former Bishop of Lewes and Gloucester. Convicted in 2015 of abusing young men and boys. Senior figures, including a former Archbishop of Canterbury, were accused of helping cover it up.

• Jonathan Fletcher and John Smyth – Prominent evangelical leaders linked to networks within the Church. Both accused of years of violent and sexual abuse. The Church admitted a pattern of enabling behaviour among leadership.

• Financial mismanagement – Criticism of how church funds and properties are handled. Some clergy lived lavishly while parishes struggled to stay open.

• Discrimination against women and LGBTQ people – The Church resisted female bishops until 2014. It continues to ban same-sex marriage in church despite public pressure and internal division. Gay clergy have been forced to hide their relationships or resign.

• Safeguarding failures – Reports show repeated mishandling of abuse claims, with whistleblowers silenced and victims re-traumatised.

• Racial inequality – In 2020 the Church’s own review called it “institutionally racist,” admitting decades of tokenism and exclusion of Black clergy.

They missed a trick and should have invited in the tramp "community" to urinate all over the place just to get that authentic multi-story carpark vibe

Non-binary artist behind Canterbury Cathedral graffiti ‘art’ project has branded
U.S. Vice President JD Vance a “Mug”, after Vance called the art installation
‘ugly.’

Alex Vellis, who describes himself as ‘non-binary’ a ‘queer vegan’ and an
‘agender goblin’ and also uses They/Them pronouns, sparked global outcry
from Christians for the art project which has been described as “blasphemous.”

JD Vance said the exhibit made the “beautiful historical building really ugly.”

It's all so ugly-looking that it makes me think the "marginalised" communities need to be taken to see some classical art.

Can you imagine these stickers in a mosque? No, me neither. The only people who think this was a good idea are the pearl-clutchers in Canterbury, a bearded man wearing a dress whose mediocre "art" has been exhibited and DEI Lefties. Christianity was just starting to grow in this Christian country, the Church of England, tone deaf and woolly, are doing their best to stop that

You never fail to make everything about Muslims, even when it’s a story about the Church of England embarrassing itself. The irony is that your outrage actually proves the point of the exhibition. It was meant to show how intolerant and performatively offended people have become about anything that challenges their narrow view of what “Christianity” should look like. The church didn’t need help looking out of touch, but you’ve managed to make it look positively enlightened by comparison.

The Church is one of the first safe spaces for many people. It does not need all this additional messaging in order to achieve that end.

I have zero issue with Graffiti art, I personally like the style when I've seen them in an underpass etc.

But a Church (like any other Religious building tbf) I would personally like to keep it's more traditional aesthetic that we all associate with a Church.

Graffiti art just doesn't give off the right vibe for a Church imo.

I know that I'm not explaining it very well, but I do like certain stuff to follow traditional aesthetics.

I'm not always a fan of "subverting expectations."
