[MTV, the world's first 24-hour music broadcaster,
is to stop showing rolling pop videos
in the UK after almost 40 years when it closes five
channels at the end of the year.

MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV
and MTV Live will all stop broadcasting
after 31 December, the BBC understands.

However, the flagship channel, MTV HD,
will remain on air, showing reality series including
Naked Dating UK and Geordie Shore.

The move reflects a shift in viewing habits,
with music videos largely consumed on
YouTube and social media rather than television.
A spokesman for MTV's parent company,
Paramount, declined to comment.]

One Channel will remain

Of course, it was bound to happen.

our MTV channel no longer does 24 hour music videos anyway for quite some time

more like ''breakfast music'' from 6:00 to 9:00 in the morning, however in ad breaks of their shows, they do still promote new up and coming artists with MTV Push

but their show content is also quite decent, with The Challenge, Ink Master, and from my nation's own version of Ex On The Beach Double Dutch

and also Ridiculousness remains hilarious, although not as iconic now Chanel West Coast is no longer on that but more like with various guests instead

To be honest, I thought that channel stopped about 15 years ago. :joker:

Sad times. Nowadays though so many artists don’t even bother to make music videos for their songs.

i am suprized that mtv uk is still showing music videos

because music videos on mtv ended around in the 2010s when the reality tv multiverse took over the channel
