Just curious as to who watched the original BB. And did you watch it when it first aired?

Not in live time.

Not in live time.

I’m sad for you (not in a patronising way) but I’m glad you’ve at least watched it. At the time there was such a hype for it as it was new and groundbreaking.

I watched it about a year ago or a year and a half ago for the first time. Though I'd seen bits and pieces here and there over the years (in documentaries and the like, e.g., Most dramatic television moments, that sort of thing).

No im just a baby

Feel like I saw clips up until bb4. But did watch the bb3 final and would have saw enough clips to formulate favourites.

didn’t take to bb4 too well (obvs) - it was background noise / occasional family viewing

Bb5 was the first I would’ve watched in full

…I did watch it, it was something that had just never been seen in the same way before …the Big Brother of reality TV, really…it can never be the same because reality TV has grown so much/evolved so much …Anna was my favourite in that first season…

I watched it at the time - it was a major conversation point at work. We used to have launch and final parties until about BB7/8 when babies started getting in the way of social lives  We used to predict various categories on launch night (first boot, winner etc etc) and lock everyones answers in the safe at work and then reveal them at the final.

Yeah, I was 10! :omgno:

I can even remember seeing the adverts on C4 ages before asking for applicants that showed what I assume was “the Guinea pig run” housemates in the house and our teacher discussing it with us at school. She explained to us all about 1984 and where the BB name originated etc.

I was a bit too young at the time but I do remember hearing and seeing bits of it. I knew of it. Same with the four series after. The first series I actually watched when it was on was BB6. But I have watched all of the series prior to that since well what available footage there is of them anyway

…what I loved as well with the original/earlier BB’s, was the summer airing because that for me was non work time so I could get completely absorbed in them…and strangely …(…if I recall…)…the early season were also around 6 weeks-ish but that was enough, that worked beautifully because they were all so organic and ‘real TV’…now that time scaling doesn’t seem enough because of the show manipulation as one huge factor…

But my main memories for the Show started forming more during BB7 & 8.

I started from Sada's eviction in series 1 and was instantly hooked, I haven't missed an episode yet!

It's been a long slog at times and it's sad to see the state the show is in now but I'll see it through until its next axe...

I watched the preview programme they did over Christmas 1999 when they commentated on the Dutch version, and I think asked for applications for the UK show. Then watched BB1. I got more into BB2 with the live feed on E4 and BBLB.

i watched the first series, including live feed when it aired

Was there ever a TV live feed, I know they had several webcams - dial up internet speeds though.

Not my favourite series overall but it set the tone for the rest of the series.

You can watch the first series of Big Brother here - Big Brother (UK) : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive https://share.google/75fwgfrjbAVbfLRJf

First episode wasn't broadcast until the housemates were 4 days in.

I’d give it a go. I’m sure the episodes (other than launch and evictions) were a lot shorter than they are now too.

Just curious as to who watched the original BB. And did you watch it when it first aired?

We watched as the lad who won was a friend of ours he knocked around with my brother, Craig Philips,so our town was always rooting for him and what celebrations we had when he won , he donated his winnings to a disabled girl called Jo,but sadly she did die a few years after. He has moved away now but still comes to visit us all now and again,so that was the reason we started watching it.

Was it worth watching or did it feel dated?

I mean it's dated in the sense that I regarded as a cultural artifact and a nostalgic look back at the late nineties/early 2000s. But I really enjoyed it! I watched it basically concurrently with last year's series and found that it held my attention far more. The likes of Nasty Nick, Mel, Anne and co. were far more captivating and interesting than the likes of Ali, Marcello, Sarah and co. I'd give it a go, certainly!

Cool thanks, I'm quite intrigued how it compares as someone who has only ever really known modern BB (end of C4 era onwards) so I might do that after this series

Also Kazanne, never knew that Craig donated his winnings. That's incredible given the prize fund was bigger back then given inflation and all the housemates now can only think of holidays and things like that for the money

If and when I mention to other people that I watch it, I tend to go on a lil preamble about how I think everyone should be allowed to watch two pieces of trash television without fear of being judged. Because I know watching BB nowadays is equal to watching double the amount of trash. :hehe:

Yes I did. I watched it and couldn’t believe what I was watching. On the first night they were stripping naked and painting their bodies and smudging them up against the wall….swearing every 5 minutes. I remember telling my husband in the morning I couldn’t believe what I had watched…it was an eye opener.
