Disney has pulled out of its Doctor Who partnership with the BBC after just two
series following what critics called the show’s “woke” rebrand.

The US streaming giant has confirmed it will not be involved in the next series
of the sci-fi favourite following reports of lacklustre viewing figures.

it marks a major setback for the public service broadcaster, which announced
its tie-up with Disney to great fanfare in 2022. Bosses said the partnership
would transform Doctor Who into a “global franchise” reaching audiences in 150
countries.:joker:

TOP COMMENT:

I Can't imagine anyone over the age of Four watching the Inane politics of the BBC's DEI
message to the World dressed up as a TV Show ?

I don't care whether or not the show was "woke", but using a picture of him in that outfit is just spiteful.

Except its not though is it? There's a spin off airing this Christmas and then a Christmas episode next year, before normal seasons resume in 2027

Do people ever get tired of yammering on about "WOKE" every two minutes?

I’m sure you said that during the female doctor but that survived.

Nothing woke about a black person playing the doctor

that is actually true because i think the last time doctor who 2005 era was really really great and of coruse had uk tv style high ratings was during the 9th 10th and 11th doctors eras which of course were nominated alot of times on uk tv award shows for many years at least between 2005 and 2013

But it is not just that.

Disney watched the Worldwide Viewing numbers
it went low, can effect Advertisers in the USA

So yes Ratings is a Bitch

I believe Doctor Who generally did okay for how much they paid for it, them dropping it has much more to do with this I think

Yes, but lower amounts watching it in the USA
became a money problem.

They are still going on
without that big USA Cash help.

Doctor Who will never be well written while the BBC is making it.

Disney's involvement certainly didn't help, but the BBC are only really any good at Reality TV nowadays, and even that can range in quality.

Yes it is.

Disney added extra Producers
but was backing the BBC as they knew it as a success
when they first started

tbh this is more a BBC problem, than a Disney problem

considering most content with Hulu for example, for Disney have been more successes, such as Under the Bridge, Only Murders in the Building, Tracker

and also going deep for the 9-1-1 franchise, by also including its spin-off 9-1-1: Nashville to the streaming service more recently

wish they'd use the money they save from not spending on doctor who, on a deal with AMC for the partial rights of The Walking Dead spin-offs, considering they already got the main series in full on the streaming service

or to pick up Smallville (considering it has been on Hulu for a long while and via that on disney+ in the US) considering it was let go by HBO Max, would be a good move for those who enjoy the nostalgia shows (like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel are also on Disney+)

I'm guessing that some people are calling it woke due to the actor being black and gay?

Without watching the episodes, that would be my guess.

Just to add, the Jodie Whittaker era was when I quit watching Doctor Who, easily my least favourite writing that I've seen from the Show came from that era.

Tbf, the Show went well past being an educational programme when enemies like the Daleks and the Cybermen became prominent in the franchise.

If anything Chibnall's era tried to bring the educational side back into the franchise, but it was just boring.

Minus the Witch Trials episode, I actually didn't mind that one.

So woke means to be racist and homophobic and misogynistic.

When LT posts that something is ‘woke’ he is being racist, homophobic and misogynistic.
