View Full Version : ITV Big Brother just isn’t working

It’s just not working is it
C4/c5 era Big Brother is a different show to what we have now
I think the main problem is that for C4/C5 Big Brother was their golden egg
They coveted it and it was the biggest show in their calendar. That meant it was thrown shed loads of money, promoted and really taken care of production wise
ITV are treating this like a run of the mill MAFS/Geordie Shore crap fest
The format isn’t being given the respect it deserves
That shows in so many ways.
Incompetent presenters. They had Rylan right their! I’ll never understand this decision. It alienated so many fans
The fact that we didn’t get a specially built house also makes out like they don’t care. Not only that but that house space we do get never changes! The house in C4/C5 era changed shape all the time, moving bedrooms and bathrooms and walls around.
They don’t want to spend money on it at all
The reduced run time and later start date just aren’t working either. It feels less like an event and more like filler tv for the schedule when it’s a bit quiet
The lack of a public vote through phone and text also cuts off a lot of fans because the system they have now doesn’t work for a lot of older fans so it alienates them
ITV Big Brother is not Big Brother to me.
I’ve tried to look past the shortcomings but just feel like long term fans and older fans aren’t being considered anymore
C4/c5 era always respected the shows format and history but I don’t think anyone before 2023 has been mentioned or seen.

That might all be true but ultimately C4 and C5 both decided to axe BB because they didn't think it was delivering for them anymore so it will never be what it was. We're lucky to have it on our screens still imo
Also lots of people complained about C5 at the time and some of the series were pretty poor so you'll never please everyone

There have been literally no stories in the DM this series about the show or hms
…I don’t know if it’s working well tbh…because even though it might not be ‘working well’ for some/many or whatever, old school fans…?..I think for new fans, it seems to be holding up and holding its own in the viewing numbers with other reality TV shows…/maybe not so much with some but in general…and that’s the aim of it as well to bring in a new audience…it’s never going to be easy or even possible to completely ‘work for all’ because it’s completely different types of viewers and fans…
what i know about BB is that it's absolutely impossible to please everyone when human subjects are involved and the aims of the show are not the same as they were 25 years ago. They cant be, it's been done before, the world has evolved. What was deemed a social experiment 25 years ago is no longer relevant because we live in a different age.
I understand that people who have watched the show from the beginning expect certain things to happen and expect the audience to react in the same way, but they just won't
Also, audiences dont want the same things. Many don't want live feed, many don't watch every highlight show. They want to consume a show the way they want to and if that is 1 minute clips, then so be it
These are the issues the producers face in 2025, so don't expect the BB of 2000

Things in my view it really needs and especially in only a single number of weeks series
Is less immunity opportunities.
Far less messing with nominations processes by BB.
Plus proper evictions.
With NONE done on the first night, just to bring that person back later.
The bidding processes failed miserably because not enough had enough to bid effectively even equally.
Any kind of save and replace should be like the assault courses they did before, or long drawn out tasks of 2 to 3 days duration.
More tasks needed too which have more challenging and competitive elements to them.
Finally the daft ineffective jail punishment for rule breaking to be done away with or as jail should be, to have them totally isolated away from ALL the other housemates for a period
With no knowledge of what the rest are doing OR saying whatsoever.

They’re bringing in a new producer for the next series but I this series has been actually woeful from a production standpoint, no consistency, obvious favouritism and too much of a heavy focus on forced political discourse has ruined it

It does feel like they don't care. There's been absolutely no growth since the show started on ITV. For comparisons sake 3 series into BB on C4 we had BB3 and ratings hit an all time high. 3 series in on C5 they brought in Emma as they realised the host wasn't working.

This season has to be one of the worst...

I stopped watching ages ago. It was a bore-fest. Most of the housemates are bland, predictable and pretty interchangeable.

As much as I love AJ I unfortunately do think it’s time the hosts were changed, one main host and one host for the side show, these two have been given 5 series to work out and it just hasn’t happened and neither of them are seriously up to the job, getting Davina or Emma back would be the best thing for the show at minimum at this point

I dont particularly like Emma but at least she could interview and go after people

Are they really? Hopefully we get a complete tone shift like BB5.

I agree on all points, it is Big Brother obviously but it just doesn’t have the feel that it used to have.. and i’m still holding out for Rylan hosting if Strictly doesn’t snatch him first
For me it is all depending on the housemates they select. I don't think this year was a particularly interesting or entertaining bunch. Last year was so much better.

I agree. Majority of this years lot lacked any real conviction or any passion to win tasks/more eyes/prizes. Last years lot put up a fight. Overall, most of this years housemates are quite forgettable in the BB world.
