Awww R.I.P.
So close to Christmas as well ! .

Driving home for Christmas is one of those songs that's usually played once we hit December.

Very sad and not that old but I didn't realise he'd had quite a lot of health issues

Greg Lake, Shane MacGowan, Kirsty MacColl and George Michael also all died at or near Christmas :worry:

Really like his music.
My firm favourite of his songs is 'Stainsby Girls'.
Love how it starts and then builds more strongly.

Sad news so near to Christmas.
R.I.P.

In 1994 Rea had developed stomach ulcers. The following year, he "got peritonitis and nearly died. Facing the prospect of never singing, touring or performing in public again, he characteristically embarked on a radical career shift and went into movies."

Rea was first "diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of just 33". In 2000, he underwent a Whipple procedure, which resulted in the removal of the head of the pancreas and part of the duodenum, bile duct, and gall bladder.

It's the point in the year when ill or elderly people are at their most vulnerable, so it's really not that surprising

[Singer Chris Rea, known for
hits including
Driving Home for Christmas,
has died aged 74

As well as his much-loved
festive hit, Rea had success
in the late 1970s and 1980s with
Fool (If You Think It's Over),
Let's Dance and The Road To Hell

"He passed away peacefully
in hospital earlier today following
a short illness, surrounded
by his family," a statement from
his wife and two children says

The musician was diagnosed
with pancreatic cancer aged 33,
had his pancreas removed in 2001,
and later said he took
34 pills every day]

He met his wife when he was 16 and they were married for 57 years. My heart goes out to her today.

Aww :(

It’s a shame his Christmas song never went to #1 in his lifetime. It deserves to have been at the top.

It’s actually only ever peaked at #10!
