Do you have a big network of people you send and receive cards from or do you never bother?

I have received a grand total of three - from my parents, my Uncle and my neighbours. I sent five to the people above plus my Grandma and one to a pen pal I have in Germany (who sent me a festive postcard earlier in the month so that maybe counts too)

My parents still send and receive around 50 every year so I always think I should put more effort in but then it also seems a bit of a dying tradition and a big faff especially given the price of stamps these days

I sent a grand total of 6 cards by post this year due to the astronomical cost of posting to Ireland and American 3.40

I hand delivered a further 7 and that is me done....

Made me laugh to see the Royal Mail actually encouraging people to send cards in an advert..... maybe if they reduced the cost and made it a more generic price for cards at Christmas they wouldn't need to advertise :idc:

International stamp prices here are ridiculous, it only costs €1.25 to send mail from Germany to the UK

The prices of everything here is ridiculous tbf, this year for some absurd reason RM decided to lump all the pricing together so now it costs the same to send a card to Ireland as it does to Australia

I sent three parcels to Germany, three to the USA and one to Australia. Cost me the best part of a hundred quid.

USPS costs $1.70 for postcard and letter internationally but could take a while.

I send everything through UPS now using Pirateship and the bonus is I don't have to deal with the post office. I needed a thermal label printer and a small food scale and it's already paid for itself...

I know right, I dont think we have another option for letters, there is a myriad of ways to send parcels though

I don’t send cards. It’s literally throwing money away. People look at them for all of 5 seconds before putting them somewhere for a week or two before throwing them away.

This, I haven't sent cards in years. My parents try to avoid sending as many as possible nowadays too, it's actually so pointless

You could say that about alot of Christmas traditions though  its nice to get a card through the post, its nice that someone has put the effort into writing one and either taking it to the PO or hand delivering it imo, its one of the last actual Christmas traditions that actually has a bit of meaning to it.

I honestly find it pointless.

People look at the card once they open it and then that’s it. It just sits somewhere with no thought until it goes in the bin a week or so later. I’d rather people save their money and not get me a card (especially with the cost of cards, postage etc)

Agree, I love getting cards and proper mail. Christmas gifts are often a lot more wasteful tbh, so many things that will be used once or twice and then just gather dust

1, to an old neighbour who moved away 18 years ago, he always sends us 1 and its the only contact we have with him anymore. Other than that I agree with Ben, waste of money and total waste of paper. I remember 20 years ago we used to get so many cards, 20 plus, that dwindled over the years to 2 this year, 1 from that neighbour and 1 from a cousin of mine who lives in Swtizerland. So I think its a dying tradition

I have strict instructions to people not to get me toot/tat, especially plastic tat. If they don’t know what to get me, get a voucher. Same for the presents I give out.

Vouchers are awful. If they dont know what to get you they should ask you for some ideas or someone close to you

I prefer vouchers. I hate people getting me toot which clutters up the house. Vouchers for restaurants, clothing brands I like etc are welcomed.

I also had to ask people to stop getting me alcohol. I honestly have over 70 bottles of gins, whiskeys, brandy etc and I don’t drink much anymore, I’ve run out of room to store any more.

Obviously my OH and me do more personal presents.

you are missing the whole point of a present

I’d rather people use their money wisely (if they want to get me a present) and get something I’ll use rather than just give away to a charity shop because I won’t keep it. I’m upfront with people that ask what to get me and say vouchers.

i figured out years ago that the only reason i received christmas cards was because i sent them. I simply stopped the endless cycle and that was the end of that
