Is it just me that finds it odd?

When the stereo in my car conked out, i used my headphones for a couple days, but i didn't like it, you don't feel fully in control of the car when you can't hear what's going on around you. I didn't have my full wits about me.

I once drove back from the shops with earphones in just to see and even though it was a short distance I absolutely hated it. like Swan, I didn't feel like a fully had my wits about me, it was very disorientating. Never again.

I occasionally drive with just one ear pod - to listen to TalkSport whilst driving without it bothering my lovely, long suffering wife .

It means I can listen to football chat AND still hear the car and surroundings

I thought driving with headphones on was illegal? It's particularly worrying to see cyclists riding along with headphones or earbuds, completely oblivious to what's going on around them.

Yeah, i had to wait a week to get my stereo fixed, so i just used the phone speaker for my podcasts and music, sod the headphones like you say, never again. Would rather go without.

I don’t even where earphones when I’m on a bus or train. I like to be aware of my surroundings

…yeah me too and I can’t quite get used to people out and about in town and in shops who are wearing earbuds and chatting on the phone…I often say hello back because someone’s said hello as they pass me and then embarrassingly realise that they’re talking on their mobile and not to me at all…

Aldi staff are notorious for that too, you get to the head of the queue and they ask a question and then I realise they are chatting to a colleague ....

…I guess you just have to turn your head to the person nearest to you in the queue and pretend that you were actually talking to them all along…and then when the staff member does address you, say excuse me, I’m talking…!!!!!….

Amazes me the number of people who just have headphones on 24/7. Like walking down the street, in the supermarket, at the train station etc. Often places where it's pretty handy to be hear your surroundings but still there's these great big noise cancelling headphones on.

I sometimes wonder if women do this even when not listening to anything to avoid harassment?

Someone I used to work with always wears headphones when she goes shopping. I see her in Asda’s once and she was like “I have to wear headphones because people in general just drive me mad and give me a headache”. In that sense I get it, even my tolerance of people can be quite low when I’m out sometimes

I’ve done that quite a few times where I’ve said hello to people and not realised they were talking on the phone and not to me so you’re not alone there Ammi

I always have my headphone in if I'm on my own. Idk why, just got into the habit. I only use one though so I can still hear stuff

It worries me when I see women running alone with ear buds in.

What do you actually listen to though, just music all the time? I'd get sick of it

Delivery drivers need to start wearing them. Heard the usual radio station blaring out the van this morning before he got round the corner, I was stood at the door with it wide open with a look of scorn on my face. I'm sure they do it to save them ringing the bell. Plastic ice cream men.

Yup my YouTube playlist. Only has 1.5k songs on but doesn't seem to repeat too much

Worse, I remember one time at McDonald's where I saw a bunch of women wearing earpods whilst listening to Music on their phone, and they started singing.:bawling:

I had to keep a straight face as I was directly behind them, it wasn't fun.

i think it will be against the law to drive with ear covering headphones because that is unsafe driving. In ear pods is a different thing because they cant block out all noise from your surroundings

Waking depends. If I’m in a town/city/built up area/train I will wear and listen to music. Countryside/hiking I don’t, as I want to listen to nature.
