Be-it Red Bull or whatever the equivalent was in your time.

Back in the day we were given Lucozade as a recovery drink when we were poorly as little toddlers

I remember my Mom talking about that, she always seemed to cherish it as one of her great childhood treats if you will.

You’ve never had one, Parmy? Really?

How do you know you were 12, Redway? Did you make a note of it in your diary? Has Redway consulted his personal archives to retrieve this information?

It’s just that I remember I was in Year 7. Me and my mate were hoping the Red Bull would give us wings on Sports’ Day and make us win the race. Regardless of that, I do remember years and time-specifics. I find that’s important for tracking your evolution over time.

It’s not so much something to make note of as it is just something to give texture and backdrop to your approach to life, the past, the present and the future. It’s not unusual to be able to remember what you did and where you were at at specific ages anyway. So it’s not that deep in the first place. But in a lot of people, yes, it can be meta. Not overflowing nostalgia, but self-archiving through either a sense of the ages or lived experiences over a lifetime. But all that’s above just happening to know what year of school you were in when you had X Sports’ Day. Not sure why that would matter so much to anyone. Do you not remember your first pint?

16+ not "because I was good" but they weren't really available or "a thing" when I was younger.

Oh I'd forgotten about Lucozade, does that count? seems a lot less severe of an energy drink than Red Bull or Monster. I would have had Lucozades when i was younger than 16 alright

I was about 18 but only on club nights when a vodka red bull was £1.... :yuk: and then later in life as a Jagarbomb. Last time I had a Jagarbomb, about 5 years ago, I woke up in the night feeling like I was going to have a heart attack and so I haven't had one since.

I can't say I have ever had an energy drink as its own drink. Two coffees in the morning is enough caffeine for me

If we discount Lucozade then my first Energy drink was when I was around 17-18 years old.

I worked in a Night Club for a bit in the late 90's, when we were setting the bar up before opening we had fridges around the counters for just cans of red bull and we'd pour shots of Vodka into glasses and stack them near the fridges as 90% of people were ordering Vodka and Red Bull, it was crazy popular back then

I once had a couple of vodka and red bulls in my 20s. Tasted disgusting and I couldn't sleep all night. Never had it again. Caffeine is really quite bad for you, I can't understand why people drink them..

They’re so gross and taste like ****. I remember I used to go into work the next day and my boss lived off red bull and the smell would just take me back to the club at 2am and I’d spend the day feeling sick LOL!

Yeah, I agree with you on Lucozade. Not what I’d class as an energy-drink.

I drank a lot of Relentless when that first came out and would swear to everyone that it was much nicer than Red Bull. Monster then came to dominate the market but I never liked that, always tasted much sweeter

I drank far too many energy drinks really between 14/15 and 21 but I hardly touch them nowadays

I guess the good thing about Lucozade now is that they come in many different flavours. Caribbean Crush, Cherry, you name it.

Lucozade years back their selling point was it gives you energy

I will have an occasional red bull I remember many years ago as I’ve never drank alcohol and would get bored of drinking Coke I’d go onto red bull in a club and maybe have four cans poured into a glass through the night

Not back in the day when it was for sick people. It still reminds be of hospitals and being sick.

Lucozade and flat lemonade was surely designed to make you feel sicker.

Omg yes, they just had entire counters set up purely for vodka red bulls. I think back to what I drank as an 18 year old and feel sick. Everything was either loaded with caffeine or sugar.

Nowadays aside from a couple of coffees In the morning I live off water. I don’t know how I ever slept

I love original flavour Lucozade and being sick is a great excuse to drink it, very good stuff for your stomach

Lucozade - I was probably around 8-9 years old because I remember my nan buying one for me when I was ill. They used to do a lemon flavour and it was in a glass bottle iirc?

Redbull (or similar) - I remember having one when I was about 15-16? It was in my last year of school. I didn’t really like it and since then I don’t ever buy energy drinks.

…I hadn’t really thought of Lucozade as an energy drink but it did used to have the tag-line…’Lucozade aids recovery’…it was awful in taste, if you didn’t feel as though you were going to retch before you drunk it, it would definitely help you to get there…I guess it was always more of a ‘threat’, if it was ever mentioned for us to have some Lucozade…/…suddenly we were fully recovered and didn’t need it and bouncing around again…

Probably younger than 11 cus my grandparents used to have them and I really liked them lol. Didn't always drink them regularly but I have one every day now, they're literally amazing :flutter:

I think I’m a bit more concerned about having oats, warm lemon-water and Greek Yogurt every day at this point than energy-drinks, tbh. Never been massive on them in the first place but I like to set up my metabolism in-and-around caffeine/endless Starbucks/Costa-coffee (when I can afford it, not so much in dry January until I get paid again). I can do without the raw adrenaline-spiking of Red Bull/LSV alone but it can be helpful sometimes, NGL.

As-for giving Lucozade to toddlers, well. I think I’ve seen confirmation that that’s definitely not a good idea. It can mess a little kid up.

Controversially I would say that there are nicer tasting Energy Drinks out there than Red Bull.

I would recommend Rockstar, Monster, Spartan, Pussy, and Emerge. Oh and Relentless.

I cant even smell Lucozade any more as it reminds me being sick as a kid (not that i was that often but my nan would insist on it to replace lost sugars).
I had one night on Red Bull and Vodka and vowed never again

Never had an energy drink on its own though, the smell of them knock me sick.
