View Full Version : Would you ever talk to an ’80s-style radio-therapist/agony-aunt/uncle?

By that I mean radio-“therapists”/advice-hosts (e.g., late-night BBC local radio, where people voice their distress over the radio, U.S.-Loveline) less bound by modern scaffolding and liability-ethics, less safeguarding and more public emotional triage. Would you be willing to take that risk and speak in a capacity that’s the opposite to the bounded, strict confidentiality of Samaritans, or would it feel too exposing?

No, but I used to enjoy listening to them.

If they were as good as Fraiser Crane, maybe

Don’t be offended but I could totally see you in a Jerry-Springer audience (God rest the man’s soul).

Well you would see me, cause you'd be on the stage.

No. There are some things that should be done in private. That's one of them.

No, if I'm going to have someone embarrass me, I'd rather it be done by a professional. (a joke)

Parm's energy has always been kinda like that for me also on TiBB.

Not a hard sell for some of us. This is a BB forum after all...

If I were to ever talk to a Therapist it would be in a private setting.

My innermost thoughts I like to keep more private anyway.

…no, but they were of their time, weren’t they…and that wasn’t the time of the internet or social media or forums or the like so I guess for some, they helped in not feeling so isolated and in reaching out over those radio waves etc…it all helped Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in Seattle…

Compared to the 80's there are far more specialised services available, and a ton of resources on the internet.

Radio 5 have a talk in type show on late night weekends. I caught it once and ended up listening to the whole show. However, i think that was more a case of morbid curiosity

Do you remember when that serial killer called Howard Stern?
