Nasty NEC Buggers
[Andy Burnham has been blocked from
standing in the Gorton and Denton by-election
by allies of Sir Keir Starmer,
in a move that risks plunging the
Prime Minister’s leadership into crisis.]
He will have to stay as the Mayor

Cowards.
They (NEC) do not want PM Starmer
To have this as a real distraction.
Starmer won't get out of this one easily.
It's like I described yesterday, if he stood as an MP, there was a risk they could lose the mayor and the seat, but it also looks like Starmer is running scared

Starmer and his sycophants have to go and this will only make it easier

Yes, the NEC is protecting him

Democratic elections have been cancelled denying people the right to vote. In the last few weeks, more councils have cancelled elections, my own included. There is nothing this bunch won't do in order to cling on to power by their fingertips and the whole Burnham drama is just the latest thing. They were thinking about a BAME shortlist or a women only shortlist... racist and sexist in my opinion, but this will obviously serve them better. What they're doing is ensuring Labour is totally unelectable in the future.

Starmer and his Labour right cronies would rather burn the party to the ground and hand the country over to Farage and his gaggle of facists than admit that they’re not working and let someone left of centre try and fix the mess

Farage is going to win the next general election. But in my opinion there needs to be a strong party on the Left for balance. That isn't going to happen and we can thank Starmer and his ambition for that.
The decision was made by 10 members of the NEC, including Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, party chair Ellie Reeves and the prime minister himself on Sunday morning.

Clearly a fair vote

Sorry
I haven’t been following this ( or any politics ) .
I thought he would make a good / popular politician .. just what Labour need so why have they blocked him ??

Because he's a threat to Starmer?
Because he's a threat to Starmer?
But Starmer is a liability according to the polls and his days are numbered
I presumed Andy B would be their next big thing
Who would the voters go for between him and Angela Rayner

Starmer doesn't care that he's a liability.
He's going to hang on for as long as he possibly can.
He just wants to swan around on the world stage, bigging himself up.
I'd probably do the same thing if I was Starmer tbh. That doesn't make it right but trying to govern with Burnham as a backbench MP would be an absolute nightmare. The situation is already pretty dire for this government but this would mean they are one step away from collapsing at any point, given that Burnham has already threatened the PM's leadership when he wasn't an MP. He's not as popular as he thinks either so if he brought down Starmer there is very little chance that he could turn things around for Labour

[The Times reports on Mr Burnham's claims
that news outlets were informed of
his being blocked from running
in the Gorton and Denton by-election
before he was.
He said on social media that
"you would think that over
30 years of service would count
for something but sadly not"]

At the next general election Labour are as dead in the water as the Tories. So who will be left to face Reform? The LibDems, with their leader who will be so desperate for publicity he'll probably arrive on a pogo stick, or the Greens, with a leader who once professed he could hypnotise women and make their boobs bigger. A right pair of hard-hitters there...

Farage is too close to Trump, that could be enough to sink reform

I agree he's too close to him. I think that could change as Trump gets more insane. Farage isn't stupid, I think he would be willing to cut himself loose from Trump and anyway, by the time of the next general election, the Trump era will be over. Unless he stages a coup of course, which would not surprise me at all.

yes, it's true trump is on a restricted time purely from age. He won't give up the presidency unless he gets his board of peace venture started and accepted. That's his method of world domination and is his ultimate goal
