…this story has obviously been ongoing since Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance…and it’s being investigated as a possible abduction, with not only signs that Nancy was taken from her home but that she may also have been harmed in the process…the lady is 84yrs old and requires daily medication …and if it was an abduction then are there any attempts to negotiate her return…?…it’s all very bizarre and hugely distressing for all who know her…
The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show cohost Savannah Guthrie, is being investigated as a possible abduction, authorities say.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home just north of Tucson on Jan. 31 at about 9:30 p.m., according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Her family reported her missing at 11 a.m. on Feb. 1 after she did not show up for church.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that after processing her home, investigators believe Nancy Guthrie, who lives alone, was abducted.
“Nancy was taken from her home against her will,” he said. “We don't know where she is.”
Hours after the press conference, the sheriff’s department acknowledged reports of a possible ransom note regarding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance on X. “We are taking all tips and leads very seriously. Anything that comes in goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI,” the post said, adding a QR code for any information or tips to be shared.
He also told CBS News that a local TV news station had received a ransom note on Monday containing specific details about the night of Guthrie’s disappearance. Investigators have analyzed the note and are taking it seriously, he told the network.
Later on Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel said federal law enforcement had been made aware of the possible ransom note. "The local authorities notified the FBI of it, and we are working with them in any manner they choose," he told Fox News.
The FBI is assisting local police in the investigation, providing analytical and technical support.
“We are looking at this from every angle but need your help,” said Jon Edwards, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI field office in Tucson. “Every lead and tip is important.”
According to the Associated Press, investigators “found signs of forced entry” at the home. Nancy Guthrie’s personal belongings, including her cellphone, wallet and car, were left behind.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the sheriff said she has limited mobility and would not have been able to leave her home on foot. “We know she didn’t just walk out of there,” he said. “She couldn't walk 50 yards by herself."
But Nanos also stressed that she has no cognitive issues and, according to her family, is still of “great sound mind.”
Annie Guthrie, Savannah’s older sister, was the last person to see Nancy Guthrie before she was reported missing, Nanos told Us Weekly. Annie Guthrie told authorities that the family took Nancy Guthrie home from dinner on Saturday night and did not notice any “red flags” about her mom’s behavior that evening.
The Los Angeles Times reported that blood was found in Nancy Guthrie’s home. Nanos told People magazine that investigators "have taken what we believe is biological DNA-type evidence and we are submitting it to our labs."
The sheriff said that Nancy Guthrie needs daily medications and that the situation could become life-threatening if she goes without them for more than 24 hours.
"It is a race against time, and I hope that window hasn’t closed," he told NBC News.
Nanos also issued a plea to her potential abductor.
“Just call us. Let her go,” he said. “The family will tell you, there’s no questions asked here."
In a post on Instagram late Monday night, Savannah Guthrie asked people to continue to pray for her mother's safe return home.
"Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment," she wrote. "We need you."
A motive for Nancy Guthrie’s possible abduction remains unclear, and authorities don’t know whether she was targeted. When asked by reporters if Savannah Guthrie has received any threats herself, Nanos replied that her security team is in touch with the sheriff’s department. “We’re not going to dismiss any angles for sure, but right now immediately, we don’t know of anything like that,” he said.
On a missing persons flier distributed by the sheriff’s department, Nancy Guthire is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, with brown hair, blue eyes and weighing around 150 lbs. It’s unclear what type of clothing she was wearing when she disappeared.
The sheriff’s department is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for “information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved in the disappearance.”

…fake ransom demands were always going to be a problem in this world of too easy to fake that we live in…there has been more than one ransom demand…I believe that the one being investigated/authenticated atm is for bitcoin which is unusual because it’s so highly traceable…it’s been 6 days now since Nancy Guthrie went missing, it’s all highly strange and a nightmare situation for the family…

…I mean, I just don’t understand after 6 days why a ransom hasn’t yet been demanded if to extort money was the purpose of taking her…she’s obviously elderly and in need of medication so the longer she was without that medication then the more at risk she would be …and that would take away any reasoning of ransom demands being met in a situation of her health being at risk…?..it just isn’t making sense to me, we’re obviously missing some details/information, surely…the family have asked for proof of life and the authorities seem to think that Nancy is still alive so after 6 days, why have the family not been given that proof of life if it was possible to do so…?….

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Thursday that "everybody is still a suspect in our eyes" as the investigation continues.
Investigators laid out a timeline of events at a press conference Thursday. Nancy Guthrie was dropped off at her home on Saturday, Jan. 31 at approximately 9:48 p.m. after dinner with family. The doorbell camera disconnected at 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, and at 2:12 a.m., software detected a person on camera, but no video was available. At 2:28 a.m., Nancy's pacemaker app disconnected from the phone, authorities said.
The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information on Guthrie's disappearance and are vetting ransom notes. At least one person has been arrested in connection to an "imposter ransom demand."
The sheriff said blood found on the porch was tested and DNA analysis found it belonged to Nancy.
Nancy Guthrie's son, Camron Guthrie, made a new video appeal on Thursday to his mother's potential captors, pleading with them to make contact with the family. He said the family hadn't "heard anything directly" and added, "Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you."

A person has been detained for questioning in connection with Nancy Guthrie's abduction, hours after authorities released doorbell camera footage from the scene.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI took the unidentified individual into custody Tuesday night from a location south of Tucson, with authorities now preparing to search a property associated with the individual, ABC News reports.
The update comes hours after federal officials released surveillance footage showing a male figure, wearing a ski mask and thick gloves, approaching Nancy's $1 million home before realizing that there was a camera recording him and tearing it off.
Search and rescue teams were then seen going door-to-door near Nancy's eldest daughter's home in Tucson, as a Bitcoin account referenced in a ransom note for the 84 year old's release started to see activity.
Her alleged captors had set up a cryptocurrency account, asking her family members to deposit $6 million in Bitcoin to the account by Monday night.
The deadline then passed without any money posted, but on Tuesday, TMZ's Harvey Levin reported that 'we have seen activity in the account,' without offering any specifics.
Local news outlet KGUN later reported that the activity amounted to less than $300.
Supposedly they were headed for the Mexican border.

Sheriff Chris Nanos said the “detained subject” was picked up during a traffic stop Tuesday in Rio Rico – south of Tucson, Arizona, near the U.S.-Mexico border – based on investigative leads.
The development comes after police released new surveillance footage showing a masked and “armed” individual outside of the missing woman’s home.
Guthrie was last seen on January 31 and authorities believe she was abducted in the early hours of February 1.
The new video shows “an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said.
Savannah Guthrie shared the footage on Instagram, writing: “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”
The FBI is meanwhile probing reports of a ransom note sent to media outlets demanding $6 million for Guthrie’s return, which included two payment deadlines that have since passed.
The bureau said it is “not aware of any continued communication” between the family and suspected kidnappers.

Being realistic, it's not very likely that a woman in her 80's would survive an extended ordeal like that. There aren't many people at that age that don't require daily medications. That, together with the stress and the blood found at the scene, are not good omens. I would imagine that any ransom demand requires proof of life, and thats not even been mentioned.

…proof of life was requested and that the family said that they would meet the ransom demands would have been an indication that, that proof of life may have been given but apparently not…and yet the family seem sure that their mom is ‘still out there’ …how can they feel that if proof of life isn’t being given…this is all very odd…maybe I’m missing something, when they’ve pleaded that Nancy be returned…/…‘that’s the only way that they can have peace’ was the phrasing they used, I think…are they meaning that they’ll meet ransom demands that will return her body to them so that she can be laid to rest, is that what they’re meaning…?…

…to be fair, it does also seem to be the way that there seems to frustratingly seems to be very little happening an FBI involved case but then an arrest and charges will be made because of things that we don’t know and that aren't made public…/often not made public for a reason…the media’s add a huge amount of frustration in their reporting of ‘significance’ when they may not be so much at all…I can’t imagine how much that adds to the family stress and anxieties…

Blood from the 84-year-old was previously found on the Tucson-area property's front porch. She was reported missing on 1 February .
