…I didn’t know whether to put this in the Winter Olympic thread but it’s a huge emerging story, it can be moved into that thread if that’s felt the thing…

Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych has been banned from competing at the Winter Olympics after he insisted on wearing a helmet depicting athletes killed since Russia's invasion.

The 2026 Winter Olympics return to Europe with a historic milestone. For the first time ever, at least 44 publicly out athletes will compete at the games, honouring the Olympic values of excellence, respect, and friendship. The Pride flag will fly high in Milano and Cortina

i'm with the ukranian competitor. He probably knew he would be banned, so he achieved his objective of getting it in the news

…this is exactly what my thoughts have been also…had he asked about wearing it and been told no, then he wouldn’t have succeeded in making his voice heard in something that’s obviously so very important to him that it is…and his voice is being heard right now…

I think that was his point yeah, but then what is the point really, its not going to change anything he could have made a stand by not going and given someone else the opportunity and it might have given his country a lift if he had won a medal ....
