Quotes from the official Ofcom Broadcasting Code:
"Representations of sexual intercourse must not occur before the watershed, or when children are particularly likely to be listening, unless there is a serious educational purpose. Any discussion on, or portrayal of, sexual behaviour must be editorially justified if included before the watershed, or when children are particularly likely to be listening, and must be appropriately limited and inexplicit."
"Nudity before the watershed must be justified by the context."
The watershed is between 9.00pm and 5.30am, so as Clapham Junction was on between 10 and 11pm, I don't think it has broken any rules.

television x is the only exaple i can find on wikipedia.com
Censorship
Television X advertises itself as showing all that it can show, but due to UK television censorship, the amount that can be shown is less than that of hardcore pornography. Whilst full nudity can be shown, as can sexual intercourse, the limit to what the viewer can actually see means that Television X cannot show:-
Direct eyeline of penetration. This includes any part of the body being penetrated and by anything.
Erections
Direct tongue to genital contact. In the case of fellatio the view is normally blocked by an arm, a leg, or the act is filmed from behind. In the case of cunnilingus, a 'top down' view can be used, but a direct view of the tongue touching the vagina is never shown.
Direct touching of the naked penis
As a result of these restrictions, programming tends to be reliant on drawn out situations, restrictive camera angles and the actors / actress constantly describing the current activity to compensate for the viewer not actually being allowed to see it.

I all ways thought that if it was educational it could be shown. There was a program a while back about sex. They had a camera strapped to the blokes cock and a camera inside the woman so you saw penetration with an erect penis from both view points. This included him cumming. I think it was C4 and on around 10pm. This was classed as an educational program though.

Well seeing as most of the porn channels, or so i'm told, can't show any erections or insertion of la penus, i doubt a mainstream channel such as channel 4 would get let off.
Although, they show placid penus's all the time on tv, so what does it matter if the chaps excitable.

I think in the porn sense it is not legal to show certain things on the telly and an erection may well be one of them, however for a documentary I am sure it should be ok!

If they said before the show that the programme might contain sex or what ever, then they can't do anything, because C4 warned the audience. Most of this stuff was shown on Skins, although we didn't see it, it was obvious they were doing it. It's after watershed so it shouldn't be a problem.

I watched it, I didn't see an erect penis? (I didn't watch the full thing but only missed literally a few minutes). Also, the marked it with a warning more than once and after every break, so I don't see where the problem is.

With the older man and the young boy when they were in his flat?
It didn't show the whole penis so I think it went passed the rules, also, they're allowed to do it if it's within the context of the programme - and it was.

no it was at the end after the flat sence
the boy lit a fag and started masabating and then the older man saw him and when he was shutting his curtain the younger boy got up a exposed himself

I thought we were discussing that? It's important whether it was erect or not as thats the conditions outlined in the watershed rules.

As most of you know,im in spain at the moment, and it really shows the difference in attitude, when the main channels show porn (full on boners, fannys everything) for free after 11 o clock.lol
I mean an erection is an erection, its not gonna kill you too see one, aslong as its on at an appropriate time,i say erections for everyone.
and anyone who says "eww" to the naked body (unless belonging to jade goody or bubbles from little britain) has serious issues to deal with

He said naked body, meaning both male and female.
And I know MANY straight men who are comfortable and mature enough not to go "eww" at a naked male body - er, you have your own afterall.

I actually thought the programme was fab..... it showed the prejudice that some people still have.
I also watched the programme the previous night about the court case which helped raise issues which led to the legaliation of homosexuality.

I agree, but I still feel the programme was slightly stereotypical with the "public toilet" and "heath" scenes. But it did bring some issues into the spotlight that need to be addressed concerning attitudes towards homosexuality.

I agree with the stereotypical part but I guess we cant have a spot on view. For me it showed the vunrability which still exists. I was under the assumtion, and wrongly so, that gay rights stood firm but there are still some extreamly prejudice people in society who are out to victimis.

Yeah, I know public toilet and Hampstead Heath etc are still popular places for that (as we see in the media, constantly!) - but the programme presented it as if all the characters were cocaine sniffing toilet cruisers.
And about that character that beat them up - I got the impression he was gay? :conf: I dunno, I got confused with that storyline!

I saw the guy as Straight, and he went to the Gay Club to entice other Gay men to beat them up. Then, in the end, he got his cum-uppence!
Also, at no point did an erect penis appear in this programme.
It was a very interesting look and representation of how a lot of people still treat Gay Men in Britain. Which is a shame really.

That's all well and true, but that's just a guideline for broadcasters to try and stay in. I also watched the programme you referred to which mentioned that Guideline. And that's all it is, a Guideline. Meaning, it can be slightly altered.
The only way Channel 4 or the Clapham Junction makers would get in trouble from it, is if a certain number of viewers complained. Which I don't personally think will happen.

It wasnt erect...it was a semi..... and yes, I have seen one.... you dont get pregnant without coming into contact with one....lol
On the issue of the beating charater.... I am still looking but what I have come across doesnt make things any clearer......
"the self-loathing psycho who loves his Nan but commits acts of random violence against other gay men"
“Going about his day-to-day business, my character Terry is just a normal guy,” continues Nicholls. “He lives with his nan and looks after her – his mum abandoned him when he was a kid. He goes to this gay club, picks someone up – and then commits a hideous act of violence against this guy. It’s like, where did that come from?” - quote from Paul Nicholls
Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2007/07/21/nosplit/bvtvclapham21.xml)
"Starring former EastEnders actor Paul Nicholls (photo) as a brutal gay-basher" Quote (http://www.treadawaybrothers.com/modules.php?name=News&file=print&sid=118)

Ok... a little bit more and it becomes slightly clearer.....
"Elyot made his central villain more interesting than them. Played with sinister aplomb by the former EastEnder Paul Nicholls, Terry was the kind of maniac who is kind to his granny, a thug who had turned revulsion at his own homosexuality into a vendetta against practising gay men. Terry, it was suggested, was a victim of society’s attitudes, too."

I always get misunderstood so don't worry. It's actually quite difficult to express yourself on a forum. Which is one of the reasons why I hate it when people jump on you and bash you when they misunderstand your point.

Yes, and as i said earlier, even if it is above the guideline, it doesn't make it illegal. As a guideline is not a rule or law. It is just a guide.

They did use the appropriate warnings after the ad breaks so I don't think they'll "get told of for it". They may get some complaints but nothing serious.
