The woman on now is rubbish. The american guy they have is the best but still, they are in a highly artificial environment. It's hard applying psychological principles to that.
I'm not sure what the woman they have on at the start is taking :puzzled:
On the couch isn't on S4C untill 10:00pm.

Oh, is that in wales? Don't worry, you aren't missing much! They are discussing the link between how you eat and how good you are in the sack (In other words a load of rubbish!)

Not unless you consider that as a confounding variable. It's kind of like a double-bluff, instead of analysing their behaviour within a controlled environment, they take into account that the environment is artificial, and then analyse the behaviour from that.
Personally I don't like the show much because it hardly endears to beyond-basic Psychological ideas. But then again I can understand fully why they wouldn't want to go too in-depth because they wouldn't have a large target audience.

She's the best psychologyst. I find it fascinating when she links the housemates' behaviour to our ape ancestors.

I agree mostly but I never hear them say anything about the fact that they are trapped in a house full of cameras, being filmed 24/7 to an audience of millions! I don't think even the most artificial lab study could compete with that!
I love how phychologists are able to miracalously conjour these conclusions out of hand gestures in the diary room.
The american guy is weird and has an annoying voice. I also get the impression he freaks Davina out. Judi is legendary.

Annoying or not, he's the closest thing to a real psychologist they have. Judi is a joke.

Very true. I was gonna post the same thing. I think the people they have on should be people who don't watch the show and only analyse certain clips.
Like when she said she thought that Ziggy was a volcano who exploded along time ago. She was clearly having a dig regarding his past 'fame'. It's out of order from people who are supposed to give their professional opinion. She also called Liam nice but dull which has nothing to do with anything but her opinion of him as a hm. Anything she says about Brian is wildly positive.

First thing they try to teach you in psychology is that people can be generalised, that there are set behaviours and certain behaviours that always mean a certain thing. I don’t think it’s that simple, even if they do attempt to cut out the enormous bias of the environment they are in.

Real Psychologists actually don't do that. Treat this show (bar one or two things) as a mainstream gimmick with no real analysis
I agree Verloren, they don't mention the constant camera focus, and therefore demand characteristics but they're either:
a) Assuming it's all subconscious and therefore artificial doesn't come into it (I don't even think they're professional enough to consider this option though).
b) Their target is audience will accept every word they say
I'm going with B.
Don't get me wrong, sometimes they touch on some good points but largely it's just one of those whacko things. I wanna see real analysis (approaches included), with reference to confounding variables - but alas, that'll reduce viewers by at least half

It's not what I mean though. Opinion is one thing. You may like her more or find her more entertaining but I don't think she is a good psychologist. You simply can't see how good someone is in bed by looking out how they eat!
There are subconscious actions that may be similar in both events but there are so many things wrong with using that. How good someone is in bed is highly subjective for example! Also we act differently when with someone else. There is a whole host of biases in trying to simplify human behaviour down to the level of an ape.

Yeah and that's an opinion of yours. It isn't a fact that the American guy is better.

Not everything is opinion. It could be a fact that the american guy is better. There is such a thing as a bad psychologist.

It could be fact if it was proven but it hasn't so it remains your opinion. You don't know Judi is a bad physcologist, she probably has to dumb it down for the audience.

Eating habits and how good you are in the sack, linked?! Evidence please. Psychologists don’t just make things up on the spot (real ones that is).
Gerry would make a better psychologist!
It's a common fact that food and sex is related.

If you take the psychosexual analytical view, or the evolutionary view they're strongly linked.
However, if you take the ... cognitive view, for example, then they're very very very loosely linked.
So there's never a straight-up answer in Psychology, it's all subjective.

What studies have been done on this?
Have any been done on the link between the subjective- how good someone is in bed and how they eat?

Everyone would much rather have an hour of highlights for Friday and an hour for Saturday. I have no idea where they got the stupid idea to cut eviction night hls in half. Rubbish.

What studies have been done on this?
From evolutionary - meat for sex hypothesis.
I'm not saying I'm an evolutionary Psychologist, I'm just pointing out how certain approaches do link them.

I think environment and company can vastly affect a persons behaviour.
I'd certainly act differently in those two situations. I'd act a lot more autonomously when eating alone as a pose to being with a partner where we are arguably more self- conscious as a pose to sub-conscious.
Like you say, there are no solid foundations in psychology. I wouldn't say it's a fact at all.
