Scroll down until you see Jon Tickle.
An easier way, that I use is this.
Press Start
Press Run
Type net stop messenger in the box - and click OK.
Voila - no more

I have been getting grey boxes telling me to buy software from www.endads.com, is that the grey boxes others are getting ?
I have done Mark's fix, can we have more of an explanation if possible. Will it affect MSN messanger ?:conf:
Yes Sticks that is exactly the same popups that I was getting.
No I'm sure it will not effect MSN in the slightest.

The messenger service was designed as a way administrators could broadcast messages over an organisation's network to all the users.
Unfortunately Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, didn't realise it could be used for spamming purposes so they left it on as a default when they shipped Windows XP.
It's seperate from MSN Messenger so turning it off won't affect that.

I used to get so many pop ups that it just messed up my computer so much that it was impossible to do anything. I tried all the free methods but the only thing that eventually got rid of them all was a service that I paid for.

I take that back, I have had them twice this evening :bawling:
Just type it in again
On some computers it works permanent (mine) - on others it needs to be activated each net session
- Mark
That's a pain. Is there any way of making it permanent?
