An attorney for video-sharing site Youtube told a US district court that the company is near the final stages of deploying a system to filter out copyrighted content.

According to the Associated Press, Youtube attorney Philip S. Beck told a New York court that the system would be in place "hopefully in September."

The system would reportedly use digital fingerprinting technology to compare user-submitted videos to copyrighted materials and filter out violations.

Youtube reportedly has been working on a filtering system since before last fall's acquisition by Google. Last February, speculation flared up again after Google chief executive Eric Schmidt said that a system would be put in place "very soon".

Those rumours picked up even more steam when it was reported that the company was working with DRM firm Audible magic to develop a system to digitally "fingerprint" user-generated content.

Youtube's current policy states that the company will only take down infringing videos at the request of the copyright owner.

The company's policies have landed both Youtube and Google in hot water with content providers.

Since last year, Youtube has received hundreds of thousands of takedown requests from content providers and royalty groups. The largest of those is the 100,000 video takedown request from Viacom that later evolved into a $1bn lawsuit.

The Viacom suit was later combined with similar copyright suits from the FA Premier League and music label Bourne.

There may be a way round it by watermarking and editing our vids and changing the audio slightly (e.g. speeding them a slight notch). But it's still something people should know.

so what will be removed from youtube because surely all the music videos will go as well because they are copyrighted?

NO i like watching the big brother videos on youtube why are they being awful

Well as I said there may be a way round it by adding watermarks, editing video and slightly speeding up video and audio. But I'm sure google have thought of that. If however we do fool them with such techniques we can still expect channel 4 to step in sooner or later. Unless they like bb appearing on youtube.

not realy because the people who upload bb onto youtube can use dailymotion instead and its better

Yep. Glorious Dailymotion , for all the stuff banned from youtube hehehe.

But lets face it , Dailymotion is not half as big.



so why the argument then

I can understand where they are coming from. But it will NOT stop me. I have over 30 e-mail addies and lots of software to fool their fingerprint checker thingy.

I agree, it would be so sad because I like reminiscing the past series and because of all the work he's put into uploading it all. That would be awful.
