Naming a cat is very personal, it depaend on the cat and you.

But if the cat is 3 he will already be used to the name.

you are better off if you must change his name giving him a name that has a very similar sound to Nelson as it is the sound he will be familiar with. So what rhyms with nelson then???

i have 3 cats if your cat is 3 im afraid he will be used to the name nelson if he was still a kitten then you could have changed it , se what the rspca say.

Yeah I think keeping the name the same as he has had it for 3 years and it will respond to it. Changing its name will only confuse the cat and is unfair.

Keeping your cat’s given name has several advantages:

Convenience: You don't have to go through the torture of choosing a new name!

Safety: Especially for outdoor cats, if your cat already knows her name, this will help in bringing her inside faster if you need to. It also helps for your cat to know her name in case she gets lost in her new surroundings.

Easier Transition: If your cat is newly coming into your home, then having the familiarity of her already chosen name can help to ease the stress she will be experiencing as she adjusts to her new home.

the rspca said you can change his name but because of age it will take very very long or might not even happen

but its worth a go right
