This is in my local paper tonight.
Bee Gee Robin Gibb is going back to music school as a judge on the second series of Fame Academy.
The 53-year-old Manchester born singer was selected to give some credibilty to the BBC show, which hits the screens this month.
A spokesman said; " Robin agreed that because of the songwriting element of the show that we had a chance of finding someone who will be around for a few years and challenge the mould."
Can't wait

And this:
Hack Academy
Monkey can see showbiz journalists' worst competitive instincts coming to the fore in the 24-hour press sleepover that begins in the Fame Academy house tomorrow night. Eight hacks will be put through their paces by the Fame Academy coaching staff, with an early morning fitness workout, followed by singing and dancing lessons, before they have to perform a song. The Sun's Sara Nathan may have an unfair advantage as she is rumoured to have stage school training. News of the World hackette Sharon Marshall apparently takes dancing lessons and has been bragging that she can do the splits. The Daily Star's Gareth Morgan has been practising his moves and ditties around the office; while Nicola Methven has been canvassing Daily Mirror colleagues about which song she should mangle. Mail on Sunday TV critic Jaci Stephen - a late Associated replacement for Tara Conlan, who was blackballed by the Daily Mail news desk - has been known to dance on tables after a drink or two, so she should have no problem. Aled Jones from Radio 1, the Sunday Times' Dan Cairns and Mary Evans from the TV Times make up the plucky eight. The cameras will apparently be rolling in the Fame Academy house for the duration of the hacks stay - does Monkey see some potential for blackmail, to prevent those "Lame Academy" headlines rearing their head again?
Well, why not, the majority of criticism last time round was uncalled for. I cant wait!!!
Alot of people saying it starts Saturday July 26th.

On Ceefax on ITV It says that Fame Academy and Pop Idol are going head to head on Saturday 26th July
Its on the entertainment page 130 and you should find it there
But i think thats the only time they will go head to head because Pop idol should be on a saturday and Fame Academy on a Friday unless they decided to switch Fame Academy to a Saturday?
Roll on the return of Fame Academy :hello:

I can't believe that they are going head to head with Pop Idol. They tried to do that last time with Popstars: Rivals and the series suffered because of it.
Popstars got more publicity.

Pop Idol is SOOOOOO much better than Fame Academy x x x I know which one i'll be watching x
This is in The Sun today ...
THE girlfriend of F1 star JENSON BUTTON will be a contestant in BBC1’s Fame Academy.
Pretty LOUISE GRIFFITHS will appear on the first show later this month as one of 25 hopefuls waiting to get in.
Viewers will then be asked to vote the 13 finalists who will go into the TV show’s hothouse in North London to be trained.
Louise was once in a girl band called ORCHID, who originally recorded Sound Of The Underground.
The song was later nicked by GIRLS ALOUD and became their Christmas No1.
An insider at the BBC said: “Louise has a fantastic voice and is desperate to rebuild her pop career.
“She will be one of the first seven contestants singing to get into the Academy. She hopes Fame Academy will be her big chance, especially after Popstars winners Girls Aloud got a No1 with her song.”
Louise and Jenson have been dating nearly three years.
You may have seen the lovely Louise lounging around on yachts with the race ace.
But if she makes it into the Academy she will be put properly through her paces by headteacher RICHARD PARK.
If she wins, she will get a record deal with Polydor and a luxury flat to become the next DAVID SNEDDON — winner of the first series.

Fame Academy was really great if, and only if, you watched the live streaming. I am really looking forward to Fame Academy 2 and just hope that it doesn't try to compete with P I. However, I MUCH preferred Fame Academy.
By the way, I can scarcely beleive how little we seem to be hearing about Will Young. Can anybody tell me what he's doing at the moment?

ITV aren't happy that the BBC haven't moved their show.

I have to agree. Some of them were pretty awful though. I have to admit I do like the "Fame Academy on BBC THREE" program, as it follows through rather nicely with interviews with the judges, professionals in the field, etc...
And, shortly, are going to give sneek previews to the next six to perform.
Watching "Big Brother 4, the X Factor" (tag lines suck...) and Fame Academy at the same time may really drive me insane.
But nm

Sucks, doesn't it? But that's the world over for you.
Oh well, can't change that. This is something that worries me, with the fact C4 are obliged to take a disabled contestent into the BB house next year, as they'll be either voted out first... or win via a sympathy vote. A problem that I wish didn't exist with society, but alas, it does.

I was STUNNED Ladonna didn't get in, and so were the judges. She was the stand out artist in the group. Her voice gave me goose-pimples.
She had a incredibly difficult song and gave a flawless and stunning performance. It wasn't an Aretha song, it was her sister Irma's, and every bit as challenging.
I knew that weak and average lad who sang first would get through on the strength of his looks, and that's what happened. The other two girls, particularly the last one were good, Alistair was hmmm.
Let's hope there is a chance to vote in one of the best losers. Poor Ladonna, she got such positive comments from the judges as well.

I found it shocking that she didn't get in! As you say it smacks of racism and
size-ism. I think I was the only one who voted for her. :bawling: perhaps it was also Brummie-ism.
I find lately that no one likes the Brummie accent, which upsets me somewhat as I have a slightly modified version of it!

No Peachy, as soon as the lines opened I voted for LaDonna as well. I thought she was the only one with real star quality, her voice was fantastic, and even though she started off a bit shaky, you could tell that she had potential.
Hopefully she won't let this get to her and she'll continue in her quest to be a star!

Life sucks at times......
I too would have chosen the first 3 Students particularly No. 7, but no way would I have chosen Gary. Yes, very pretty, but very mediocre. Ladonna should have got a place for potential and voice. I didn't think she gave a faultless performance, but who would expect that at this stage. However, she has certainly got what it takes, it just needs developing.
I look forward to seeing them all 'grow'.
Maybe FA should consider making the final choice from all the 'potentials' who didn't get through their round. A last chance stand......Just a thought .:dazzler:
Maggie
28-07-2003, 12:17 PM
I also think Ladoona should have got in, maybe they should have left it that the teachers pick them and the public just vote for the last one to go in the house, this way we might just end up with lookers with not much of a voice. :conf:
As for Louise, great voice, but she is already a proven hit song writer with at least one number 1 hit, if she wants to become a singer she will already have plenty of contacts in the music industry. I think the show should be about new talent and her place should have gone to someone else.

How right you are Maggie. I quite agree I would have preferred to see a complete unknown given the chance to have the training given by Fame Academy - not someone who is already well known in the music world.
Boris

James
28-07-2003, 11:35 PM
I can answer that one. Haven't seen this show yet though.
It's Sound of the Underground however she didn't really write it. She was in the original group that sang it - it was written by someone else.
When Girls Aloud recorded it apparently all they did was delete the original voices from the mix and then sing over the backing music.
Did they mention that she is F1 driver Jenson Button's girlfriend?

I thought Peter was great last night but he reminded me a lot of Ainslie from last year.
My thoughts exactly, kaph . . . . in fact I thought he was a mixture of Jarvis Cocker, Liam Gallagher and Ainslie - quite a volatile cocktail!
I'm not sure if this will work in his favour or not - people are bound to make comparisons between the two. I know that Ainslie's 'quirky' antics tended to get on my nerves a bit last year (sorry Ainslie fans ) - time will tell whether Peter does or not.
In my view Audley was the best singer last night, and I was delighted that he won the student vote. All in all, the boys were far better than the girls and all three deserved to get into the Academy.

I can't wait for it to get going properly. It seems ages until we get them in there. I think there could be more tantrums and tears this year because the students are going to be so much more confined. The two days they got at Shepperton gave them a chance to talk to each other privately and to meet other people, without that the pressure is going to be enormous. I think it will be a much tougher test of character.

I agree - I liked Simone especially and was surprised she didn't go through on the public vote.
It seems as if it's odds-on for a man to win FA again this year. I have nothing against this, but it seems much harder for the girls to suceed in this show and in Pop Idol. Is that mainly due to the voting public being female?

I thought Richard Park coming back was good and that the performances were ok.
I think it could be Ladies night tonight with Janee(I think) and Alex going through and between Terance and Lorna for the student vote
I thought the public made the right decision tonight in voting Nick and Alex into the Academy.
However, I was surprised that Jeney (?sp.) was one of the two with the fewest votes - I suspect the public took Patrick's plea to vote for Terrence out of sympathy to heart (fools . . . . . he was awful!).
