Louis: Bigger than Spice Girls

X FACTOR judge Louis Walsh has launched a scathing attack on the Spice Girls – branding them “one-trick ponies”.

“Those girls are not talented. One’s just a wife of a footballer and the others are not on the radar. They’re well past their sell-by date,” ranted the music mogul in an interview with Star magazine.

Louis claimed Posh, Mel B, Emma, Geri and Mel C can’t match Girls Aloud in musical talent – or in sex appeal.

“Girls Aloud are the top girl group in the world right now. The Spice Girls are very lucky and very overrated. None of them can sing and their music is not half as good as Girls Aloud’s. Girls Aloud are also better looking.”

However, while the Spice Girls are on the verge of reforming, Louis fears Girls Aloud’s next album could be their last.

“I’ll give them another year,” he added. “They’ll do this album and you never know. Nadine from Girls Aloud could definitely go solo – she is the one with the talent and will have a successful solo career. None of the Spice Gils could do that.”

Louis, however, is unsure about his own career after Simon Cowell publicly fired and rehired him for this year’s show.

He said: “I’ve felt how ruthless this industry can be so I don’t take my position back on the show for granted.

“It was a mistake – they all know it was. I love the show and the people I work with – we’re still a big happy family.”

But while Louis is ready to forgive and forget for the sake of another paycheque, sacked host Kate Thornton isn’t going to be inviting Simon round for dinner any time soon.

Louis admitted: “Well no. That will take time. She was with us from the start and she’s a good female presenter. It’s a shame but the decision has been made.”

And Louis is delighted to welcome fourth judge Dannii Minogue on board – even though he doesn’t think much of her pop career.

“She’s no Kylie or Madonna so I was very cynical about her,” conceded Louis. “But she has been a pleasant surprise. She brings a fresh perspective to the show. She’s also good with the contestants and is quite opinionated.”
