I'm about to start working on my Big Brother 2008 house and I'm wondering which theme I should go with, so in true Big Brother style: You Decide!
1) MC Escher
2) Casual luxury
3) Insanity
4) Texture gone mad
This poll will stay open until 3 September 2007.
Escher would be interesting.

I'm just going with casual luxury but with quirkiness because I don't have much time left before school and everything like that.

OK, I've started working on the house an here is a little glimpse so far. The first two pictures are of the crowd space. I originally envisioned an outside studio similar to BB5, but this doesn't work well most of the time so I went against it. Housemates get out of the car and walk down a moderately long path, onto the podium, curve again onto the stairs that are angled against the doors, which have a balcony on which Davina can present, and the doors. I used the BB6 logo as an example. The doors have a multi-coloured texture around one side for décor. This is all to make the housemates feel happy until they actually enter the house.

This is what housemates see when they first go through the doors. The entranceway incorporates jagged walls of alternating colours alongside extensive track lighting. The entire entranceway, level and stairs, is shaped like a "U." It's a radical departure from what we've seen before on Big Brother.

This is the spiral staircase down which the housemates descend to enter the house via the light blue door at the bottom.

Very nice!
It's fantastic. The only thing I'm not so keen on is the flooring, but otherwise great.

Anyone fancy a look at the bedroom? Note that there are four double beds, enough for eight people. However, twelve can inhabit the house. How? There are two double beds outside of the bedroom, one in the lounge next to the Diary Room, and one outside in the garden (with a small covering, of course).

Thanks. The trick with the house is that the only way to access the bathroom is through the toilet, that's going to be a nightmare.

If you have to get out of or into the bedroom and someone's in the toilet, that's pretty damn annoying. Also, it's the only toilet in the house.

No it doesn't…
It's a punishment room. If Big Brother feels that a housemate has broken the rules, he will send that housemate to the punishment room (actually house). The punishment house is located on the left side of the bottom of the staircase into the house, covered by a fake wall that when slid back reveals a small staircase leading to the door. There is a loo with the door hidden on the angled wall. The Diary Room is actually the staircase that leads to the door of the punishment house.

In 2006, there were four sockets (of two plugs) in just the lounge. It's mainly for tasks.

Hopefully this cross-section will help everyone understand the relatively complex placement of everything in the house. From this view, this is what we would see if all lines were shown from a vantage point in the audience. The first 1/5 of the house is cut out, but it provides a great view of the house arrangement. The punishment house is at the bottom right, the main house at the bottom-centre, and the attic house (from which the most recent pictures originate) is the second floor.

The attic house's Diary Room entrance (and eventually real entrance, as you must go through the upper Diary Room to enter the attic house) is an interesting one. The "French" doors are actually built like train doors since they push towards the dining table and slide out once positioned outwards. Inside the corridor are printed the three slogans of the Party, a nod to Nineteen-Eighty Four: "War is Peace" on the floor, "Ingorance is Strength" on the left, and "Freedom is Slavery" on the right.

Day 1 - The first twist
As part of my BB9 (as long as I don't get bored with coming up with task ideas that I probably won't create), I'm going to put certain twists in here. The first one happens on Day 1.
Ten minutes after the twelve housemates enter, Big Brother will ask that one housemate go to the Diary Room. Whilst the housemate is in the Diary Room, Big Brother tells them that they are moving to another house. The housemate will emerge and at the end of the episode and after another housemate is called to the Diary Room in order to avoid suspicion, Big Brother will say that the housemate who originally came to the Diary Room must leave the house. The housemate will now leave the house without being allowed to talk to the other housemates. He or she will then go up the stairs and enter the second house.
Rather than having four other housemates enter the house on the same night, they will arrive in shuffled pairs. Two new housemates will ente on Day 4 (Monday), one more on Day 6 (Wednesday), and the final on Day 8 (Friday), after the first eviction. After Friday, the second house will be a completely different Big Brother that will go on simultaneously with the current house. Thus an attic housemate will be evicted directly after a main housemate, enforcing a 30 second rule which has a benefit that the housemates won't be aware of a double eviction. When the votes are read, the main housemate with the highest percentage of the votes and the housemate in the attic with the highest amount of votes are evicted, with the result being the percentage of the total votes of both houses (id est 39% of all votes counted rather than of one house).
For Week 1, the housemates in the main house will nominate normally on Day 5 with the first eviction on Day 8.

Here is the official floorplan using an orthogonal section plan view. This is only the bottom level, the top level will come shortly. The empty "rectangle" on the left is the punishment house. The bottom of the spiral entrance corridor can be seen at the top. Matt, by the way, I'm also getting the new iMac (24") because my current one from March 2006 is starting to get old.
