I've heard of the conspiracy theories about the photographs that were taken of the moon landing - very interesting but why would anyone want to make that up?

I thought there was probably just some cheese left myself.

In answer to your original question, cc100, I presume the USA Flag that was 'planted' on the moon will still be there, and the various golf balls that the astronauts hit, which travelled for miles, must have landed somewhere!

They left everything on the moon except the section of the lunar lander that took off, a few rock samples and the astronauts(!).

The Apollo 16 landing site was photographed in '94 by an unmanned probe called Clementine.

I think there is too much compelling evidence for it to have been a fake. Like the Apollo 12 descent video (http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a12/a12.landing.mov). Great!

I also believe the 1969 'Moon Landings' was staged on earth. But let's put conspiracy theories aside and instead examine probabilities, the technology and the political climate at the time.

With today's technology a moon landing should be a walk in the park. Yet we have had rockets and shuttles explode in mid air and other incidents that have occurred aborting many missions even before take-off. If this can occur today, then I am amazed that it seemed to go so smoothly over thirty years ago, where in comparison it would be fair to describe the technology back then as primitive.

So what is the probability of a successful moon landing on the first attempt in 1969? The odds must be millions to 1 surely. The module they were travelling in looked like something out of a low budget Sci-Fi television series. And if I was one of the Astronauts standing on the moon, my voice would have been choking with nerves. Instead they were happily jumping around in the dirt cheerily exchanging pleasantries with each other like it was a day out at Disney Land. Either they were all immune to fear and anxiety, or they knew that their safety was never in doubt.

Another important factor is that the moon landings took part during the height of the Cold War. The Soviet Union had already made sufficient ground with the first Cosmonaut in Space, and it was looking increasingly likely that the USA, who had spent billions on the space program, would now fall behind the Russians. It was a potential crisis. Richard Nixon, the President at the time, could have had the means to agree to such a conspiracy, as we all know his reputation and integrity were later exposed during the Watergate affair several years later.

To summarise, Scientist reports that show inaccuracies during the filming, and former NASA employees who have stated that the whole event was filmed in the Nevada desert all seem pretty conclusive that suggest the 'moon landings' never occurred.
