From today's Mirror Online:

TV VIEWERS were shocked yesterday morning when Channel 4's RI:SE show host Kate Lawler described Adolf Hitler as a "great leader".

Kate was discussing a new study which claims first-born children are the most successful.

She said: "The eldest child always seems to be determined, ambitious and the most successful.

"Every US astronaut has been the eldest boy in their family and Winston Churchill, Saddam Hussein, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton are all first-born children.

"But Margaret Thatcher, Adolf Hitler and Napoleon were all middle children and all great leaders of their time."

Co-host Dougie Anderson moved the discussion swiftly on.

It is not the first time breakfast viewers have woken up to controversy.

Last month Big Brother contestant Federico Martone described what housemate Lisa was saying as "a bag of w**k".

Lawler - a Big Brother winner - was forced to issue a grovelling apology.
Ooops!

Wonder if she writes her own script, or if she was just reading that from an autocue? I suspect the latter, in which case someone needs their knuckles severely rapped!

She's had quite a few howlers when presenting RI:SE apparently.

I don't think she's the best presenter on TV but she isn't the worst either. She'll probably do okay on TOTP.

At the risk of being screamed off the planet, I don't think it is entirely wrong to call Hitler a great leader. He did bring about massive social change, and inspire a previously downtrodden nation.

If he had been assassinated in say, 1936, he might have been thought of as one of the heroes of the 20th century

Unfortunately, the atrocities he went on to commit seem to crop up often where someone achieves great adulation and power. Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great etc are all probably considered as great leaders - but they were certainly responsible for some pretty nasty stuff themselves.

Don't forget 'Uncle' Joe Stalin was one of our allies against Hitler, and he is estimated to have been responsible for the deaths of about 20 million people.
